His point is that you can fairly criticize a place you've never been to - not that you can set a film in a place you've never been to. Frankly, I think criticizing a place you've never been to makes as much sense as criticizing a food you've never eaten, but maybe that's just me.

I think it would be fair to critisize food that's been thrown in your face, however.

It may not be a proper meal, but you get to the center of it pretty quick.

i think he does score some points for being critical of his country. anyone who does that do. it's sympathetic. now wether he is worth th epalme d'or , havenst seen the film so cant say. he was there though front row with the french strikers during the events, maybe that also helps his "fame" - i dont mean he does it for that (or that he doesnt) but that i think it helped too

Actually I read that another American film won something at Cannes. Or maybe its just be sumbitted in the running, or whatever. But it was some guy in Texas who spliced together his home movies with some Mac program.

Is it just me or do the French have really f*ucked up taste in movies? You could pit anything at the Oscar's, even the foreign films, against anything that stumbles out of Cannes. What is up with that?

Well, I think it's a bit hypocritical to attack American intelligence on supporting Bush due to bush being hated by the French, while saying nothing about the French giving the award to Michael Moore simply for attacking Bush.
