Won is another matter, but Jack may have saved as many as 5 seats from defection back to the Liberals. Maybe more. So maybe he did what he needed to do, since he was allowed to.

I am over the parade, but my friends keep dragging me out so I suppose I will be there on the 27th once again.

The one analysis I heard and agree with was that no one 'won' the debate but that Martin, Layton, and Harper did what they had to do. The slim possibility of a Conservative Majority is now gone and the race may be even more competitive for the last two weeks. Look for a nail-biting finish on June 28.

I can't agree with that. The consensus was that Harper was not scarey, if maybe a bit boring.

The only thing standing between him and a very narrow majority is the scare campaign. Let's see how much traction that has after 4 hours of going to sleep while listening to him describe Parliamentary procedure and free votes.

Also, I do not come from Quebec, but it seems that one good point Harper may have made (more than once, last night and tonight) is that the Bloc is not a way for Quebec to change governments.

Speaking of which, a young middle aged man from Montreal is on CBC right now saying he may vote Conservative for the first time in his life.

Then, after that, they had a woman from B.C. who was leaning NDP, but was impressed by the Cons and Harper...

So she's now looking to vote Liberal.

I never said Harper was scary. A Conservative majority was a possibility if Martin flopped tonight Harper picked up additional momentum. That clearly did not happen. Martin did not win back people with his performance tonight but he probably stopped the people who were still thinking about jumping ship to start thinking about staying. What this comes down to in the many ridings where there are very close 2 and 3 way races is whoever can get their voters out on June 28 will take the riding. I will agree a Harper minority looks more likely than a Martin minority but the debate tonight has left both of these possibilities open.

No kidding. But "zero tolerance" means the Conservatives will not tolerate anything that depicts minors having sex. That means banning Romeo and Juliet, Lolita, or a television show dealing with the issue of child pregnancies.

We made exceptions for these cases with the artistic merit clause. After the court case in BC, the law was strengthened by changing "artistic merit" to "public good". In other words, as a defence, the accused would have to show that he/she was serving the public good.

Do you see any problem with that? I don't.

The Conservative promise to ban everything involving sex among minors is crazy.

Denmark? Well, dammit, we need to buy some nukes to protect ourselves from the evil Danes.

This has nothing to do with firearms safety training. If you want to own a gun you have to get a Firearms Aquisition Certificate. To get that licence, you need to take a safety course. So why are the Conservatives promising to create a law that already exists.

What was the last international commitment that Canada has upheld without the help of the Americans? We can't even deploy our peacekeepers without the Americans help, due to the antiquity of our Sea Kings.

Can you say Kyoto?

Canada pays its UN dues without the help of Americans.

Canada provides financial assistance to dozens of international organisations, without the help of Americans.

Canada is routinely involved in peacekeeping missions without any help from the US. As for the last UN committment that involved Canada, but not the US, it is probably Rwanda.

In other words, Canada decides its own foreign policy. For the Conservatives to claim that they are the only party with a "Made in Canada" foreign policy is ridiculous.

Looked like Joe Clark, a little bit.

Must really bite to be NDP. The Liberals are so ripe they need to be tossed for the good of the country, but the only viable candidates to replace them are the 'barbarians'.

How can you not want to drive a tank down the street?

What the NDP needs is for the Liberals to be in for sooo long that they get Campbelled. Get rid of the middleman. Leave the right to battle it out with the left and the Liberals to win 20 seats on the come back.

But then, the NDP would have to battle for the centre. Not sure if they have that in them. Do they, or will they ever?
