Besides, the kind of identities we're talking about are not just about beliefs. I'm Chinese-Canadian. Physically, I'm partially Chinese. To deny that is crazy.

Everyone describes themselves in different ways. This does not irreparable divide us. These are just statement of facts.

To object to hyphenated nationalities is like saying you object to people calling themselves Yankee fans.

A bit on topic and a bit off my friend has recently taken to calling me wigger or nigger, wigger while around people, nigger while amongst friends.

The Eskimos up here call white people tunnuks**, its supposed to be derogitory* but I've gotten so used to it being used in everyday speach I honestly cant believe for a second they really mean it as an insult.

I also call my Eskimo friends Indians and my Indian friends Eskimos, they dont like that too much.

not once in my life have I refered to a black person as African American, and not once in my life have I been told to do so by anyone other than a white person.

I'm a racist even though I spearheaded a minority recruitment initiative at my parents place, and prefer to use the term African-American, even to the point of insisting that it is the polite thing to do unless otherwise asked.

Che's a racist even though he is married to an African-American.

Speers not a racist because he and his buds are comfortable throwing the word nigger around.

I have no problems with blacks using the word "nigger" among themselves.

Just as I use the word "faggot" or "queer" when I'm with friends who I know will see my use of those words as being playful and when I know it's the right time and place to use those words.

Good on you John. A) for starting a minority recruitment initiative and B) for wanting to do the polite thing.

The extreme PC thing pisses me off as much as the next person (What's so wrong with using the word "oriental"), but in the end, political correctness is about being polite. Respect the other person. What's so wrong about that.

Albert, we're talking about groups here, not individuals.
