ah, it doesn't mention that as a prereuisite in the manual.... But then again, the manual lists spears as a light weapon when it is actually large. (Why shouldn't a gnome be able to use a spear? )

You'll like it I think. It's a decent game, though after more recent games like KOTOR it is frustrating not being able to direct the henchman very easily. Also in the OC there is the henchman inventory problem, which is quite annoying when you pick up something that is perfect for your henchman.

This is why MP is so nice - your henchmen are real people

(Although sometimes its hard to get someone to go through the door first - a party with a Rogue, Wizard, Sorceror, Cleric and Arcane Archer spent a LOT of time saying "You go first" )

Well, most people seem not to be able to work out that you can use the trade/barter interface with other players to SHOW them an item which they can then ID They think you have to GIVE it

In fact lots of people have to be told how to use the trade/barter interface, since you don't have it in SP.

Yes, there are evil characters... but you're not meant to keep killing other people. Once is ok, but often is annoying and will get you in trouble.

I'm working to reduce load on 'poly's server

60 Euros is nothing compared to playing Everquest or similar games which have a monthly fee, is it? Hell, its cheaper than a month's cable here.

I haven't tried NWN online yet, but from what I see there are up-sides and down-sides. The downside of NWN is that it isn't 'massive' obviously. The upside is that it can be moderated and specialised to cater to certain play styles. This is great news if you're a roleplayer... 'cause there's no roleplaying on the big MMORPGs.

Maybe I would've gotten a better deal if I knew of an independant games store around here, but as it is I had to buy it from Electronics Boutique, and they like to price gouge. (And it was only $70 before taxes, by the way.)

I was lucky enough to find 2 rings of invisibilty yesterday with unlimited charges (3/day), so you can have one (we can work out a swop deal)

I have more questions.

I'm still trying to get my head around the whole thing. I have too many games on my list at the moment, but if I get around to this before WoW comes out I'll buy whatever I need (hopefully just HotU) and give it a whirl.

So from what I've read here (and correct any wrong bits Jamski) a persistent world is a large user made module with tonnes of quests like in the SP game. The world is maintained by some owners and extra content is added by some people like Jamski.

Stuff (bad guys, loot) respawns at regular intervals. Does this mean you can't do certain quests until the boss character you need to kill for your quest (say) respawns? And I don't really get the references to resetting the module. If all the stuff respawns why is this necessary? Also to follow up is the answer to those 2 questions the same as in other MMORPGs?

Also I peeked at gamespy today. It list PW as one option, but there are lots of other servers. Are these SP modules that you play with other people?

You've hit the nail Doc. You need to reset regularly because of things like loot not picked up lying on the floor, monsters spawned but not killed etc... eventually it gets messy. We have a crappy server too, which needs to be rebooted every few days (at the moment its WAY overdue and lagging to hell, 'cos the server monkey is a lazy arse)

You can't move from world to world, no. Each world is too different for that to work.

And yes, to all the respawn questions. I've never had to wait for a boss to respawn though. Its not like there's hundreds of people all doing the same quest at once.

If the worlds are made to be compatible, it's possible isn't it? I know that was the idea behind ALFA, where they have a dozen or so servers all running different areas. Maybe it didn't work out for that, though...
