I don't see why not. That was the theory when the game came out.

But first of all you would need cooperation between the people who run the worlds. Many people wouldn't want to let characters in from different worlds because they might be too powerful, or have too many powerful magic items.

Also special modded items that aren't in the standard game (like in folderal) might post problems. But you think this would be alleviated with the CEP. Maybe a few things wouldn't work.

Supposedly all you needed was a regular portal. but instead of commanding it to take you to another area, you commanded it to take you to another IP address. Thats what I heard when the game came out anyways.

yes some of those things on the gamespy are just regular modules (not persistant worlds). Sometimes you see people playing the original campaign. You should see that listed on there sometimes. It can be difficult to just randomly join in a regular module. If they are further along than you, you may not be able to catch up. Many of those are password protected and closed groups.

to play these types of games, there was a great site I used. I'm not sure if it is as active as it used to be though. http://www.neverwinterconnections.com/. I've played some great modules with some good people. They actually role played. It's much better than randomly joining some games. There's a rating system to rate the players in several categories as well. I've played pools of radiance, and a few other good modules on with other guys. Even a DM'd module.

Well, I would be on right now, but 2 things have kept me away.
1) The game crashed 5 times. With about 50% of todays games this wouldn't be a problem, but the little s***s who coded this did something wrong and a freeze = screen lock, a.k.a you can't ctrl-alt-del or alt-tab. So there went 15 min of hard reboots.
2) I spent the next 90 min tryng to troubleshoot my network. For some reason my network at work (20+/- computers) continues to run smoothly but I can't get the house under control. BAH!

I had trouble finding it too. Copy the ip address and port from jam's post (above) and paste it into the multiplayer direct connect box. Hit enter. There is no password.

Do some potions have level requirements? I was cursed yesterday and a player helped my out by giving me some restoring potion. My lvl 2 gnome couldn't use it and there was a debate over wether it was a bug or level restriction.

Can you cure a curse with a restoration potion? I though the potion only came in the lesser form. A remove curse scroll would definitely work.

Btw does anyone use Gamespy for this game? I took a peek earlier but it wouldn't show me more than a couple of PW servers. Also HotU didn't show up, though NWN and SoU did.

What do you mean HotU didn't show up? You mean you couldn't start a HotU game? That's probably why you couldn't find any servers, since it sounds like you don't have it installed properly, and 95% of the servers need HotU and latest patch to play.

And you cannot cure a curse with a restoration potion. And you can put, as a builder, any spell in a potion that you like. A high level spell will give you a potion with a level req. though.

Gamespy seems to be throwing a wobbly today anyway. There's a bunch of servers I use that are up and running, and accessable through my "favorites" that don't appear in the NWN Gamespy client.

Greater restoration potions will remove curses, IIRC. I didn't even know there was a regular restoration potion in Folderol.

FWIW, greater restoration is a fairly high-level spell, 6th or 7th level. That's probably high enough for item level restrictions to come into play.

Greater Restoration will not remove curses. Tried it yesterday, after that %§*'$ Gypsy Witch cursed me... The regular Restoration potions in Folderol are called "King's Foil Cure" btw.

Since the bestow curse spell in NWN is just -2 to all all ability scores, greater restoration would negate its effects. (FWIW, the bestow curse in stock 3E is really nasty: -6 to attributes, -4 to all rolls.)

I'm guessing the reason the greater restoration potions didn't work in your case is because the curse is supposed to be there for 24 hours, and can't be wiped in the meantime. (Logging out and back in might work, but that's cheating. ) The potions can get rid of your run-of-the-mill curses from a mummy or siren or whatnot (I've done it myself). Likewise, I don't think the damage reduction from the good result can be dispelled.

Yeah, its an ApplyEffectToObject(), with a duration of 24 hours, not CastSpellAtTarget(), I just checked in the code... that could be why... but Remove Curse shouldn't shift it either...

Hmmm... I guess its fine though as it is.

that favourites is a cool tab. I don't think they had it when NWN first came out.

I don't directly use gamespy. I click on multiplayer after clicking on the icon to start the game.

Well I've not tried the ingame browser. Very often it is separate from Gamespy, and even when it uses gamespy in some way has it's own code rather than just launching gamespy.

I launched gamespy and it only detected NWN and SoU, though I have HotU (and I don't know how it can be incorrectly installed). It may be due to the 'trial' version I have.

The NWN servers I can see, and there are about 100 on the NWN root screen. But as soon as I pick a category (like PW, or action) only a handful of servers come up.

Anyway, I suspect many of the servers are HotU anyway, and probably most of the good PW, which I want to try.

Can I just use legal NWN + legal HotU or do all three games need to be purchased?

You have to have a legitimate code for all three I'm afraid. I don't know whether the codes are transferrable. I got NWN and SoU second-hand (just bought HotU from Thailand on eBray ), so I hope that these codes have not already been used or that if they have then I can use them too.
In fact, if this is possible then someone else could use the codes on my games until such a day as I ever get broadband at home.

Yep, there's no way round it. You have to have a legit code matching your legit CD to play online. Atari have done well there

Edit: what's this about cd protection too? They must have something against me circumventing them!

There's no problem with you using codes that have been used by the previous owner, unless the person you bought them off is still using them, or gave them to his mates ( ). Your HotU should be fine, since those dodgy cheap Thailand copies (I looked at them) are I think new.
