Thanks for the glögg Paddy! The Romans used to spice their red wine and serve it hot. This is one modern version of it.

Here's the recipe for glögg.
1 bottle of cheap red wine
12 cl vodka
7 pieces of cinnamon (Cinnamomum ceylanicum)
20 pieces of Clove (Eugenia caryophyllus)
1 piece of Ginger (zingiber officinale)
1 tablespoon crushed cardamom (Elettaria Cardamomum)
1 Seville orange peel (Citrus aurantium)
2 dl granulated (caster) sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla sugar

Sweet almond and raisins

Start with crush the cardamom in a mortar and the break the cinnamon into smaller pieces.
Put all the spices in a glass-jar with a lid and pour over the vodka.
Let the jar stand over night
Trickle the spice mixture through a colander

Mix the spirit, wine, sugar and vanilla-sugar. (Can be stored for 2 weeks in a refrigerator)
Serve the glögg warm in a jug with almonds and raisins.
