Civ3 - Diplogame? Remove this text

I'm not sure I've got time to commit to a regular diplogame, but consider this a floater to see first of all if there is anyone out there who actually plays Civ3-MP, but also if anyone is interested in ever doing Diplogames in it.

Online-MP in Civ3 is almost dead. I wish you luck, but somehow have my doubts that you will get enough interest together. Civ3 PBEMs however are thriving and dozens of games of different flavor are running. I'm sure, many of them would qualify as Diplo games by your definition. If PBEM is your beef, you might have more luck there.

Suffering from ads?

Hmm, I dunno how well a PBEM Diplo would work. Personal interaction between the players is key. Though maybe you could get more of that if it slowed down in a PBEM. I dunno.

You do have a lot of personal interaction in PBEMs. Trade deals and embargoes, exchange of technologies and research argeements, border agreements, alliances and peace negotiations all require good diplomatic skills and a lot of communication. I suppose even more in a slowed down PBEM than online. If you set the game in a good context and make roleplaying a rule (many PBEMs do this), I suppose you could call this a diplo game too.

Actually, Civ3 MP is alive and well. I see more people playing than ever before.

As far as non-PBEM diplogames, I'm not really sure what you mean by this. I've only ever been exposed to PBEM diplogames. Perhaps you could explain a little further.

Take this for an example, and generally look out for games from Paddy, he has a rich fantasy when it comes to games. But you would probably want to start your own, I suppose.

Whew, okay, we're all still there. Online-MP is very much alive and well, we just have our own boards and don't dwell much at Apolyton or CFC anymore, due largely to the derision we once received there.

Cool, I definitely think there is some proto-diplogaming over at Civ3-PBEM, I am gonna post the Diplo-FAQ over there. Hopefully it'll spark some interest.

Well I posted the diplofaq here: http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...threadid=118046

But it was promptly ignored and dropped off the main page by the end of the day. There doesn't seem to be much conversation in the PBEM forum, just people playing their games.

Actually a diplogame sounds like something the stories forum might run with, I read your diplofaq and was kind of hoping I'd find a civ3 diplogame

Well if you know folks in the story forum, see if you can spark some interest in it. I think its a great genre and style of playing, with a lot of great history. Its just that its only been played in Civ2-MP so far, and I don't want diplogaming to get buried along with Civ2-MP.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

yes diplo is perfect style for civ3.

As has been pointed out al ot of the online Mpers have left here and moved to their own boards.

The PBEM forum is mainly made of "Turn Sent" posts not all know how to tell a story.

this is the forum we need to stay in to get a diplo game going, it is jsut going to take some real work to get it going,

i of course will play.

so right now we have two definates and one interested,

we now need someone who can mod the bix file to get us a map of the size we want and number of civs.

some more discusiion on accepted rules etc will obviosuly follow.

Also, if you are interested in playing in a diplogame, join the civ-group with the old english D. We fought hard to get a civ-group, but now we don't have a huge amount of members. So join up.

I am in Georgetown 2 blocks above the river. I live about 25 minutes from Ozzy, and the stench is terrible when the wind blows from that direction.

I know something of addiction to this franchise. Hopefully, I'll understand the basics before its time for the diplogame to start.

Please tell me you dont go up on Wisconsin Avenue..as their was, in the 1980's (late) a rather "seedy" place of business..

Good Guys I think..

shame..I ran into one of the girls the other day she remembered me,said she had not been dancing for a few years now but was thinking of maybe doing it again..said she had been hanging out at the beach catching a few sun rays..I ..I..I didnt know how to tell her..

the interaction of th epalyers is the most important thing fora diplo game, not the winning or losing . its mroe about the story and the develpoment of the game, it is vital that anyone playing the game realise this as posting the storys each week makes a diplo what it is.

so that being said, obvioasuly the more humans in the game the better as it makes for more interaction.

i wasnt suggesting we wait forever. but whilst we waiting for interest from other players , it is time to look for some one to make a good map that is suitable to all of us. usually a dilpo game played on a earth map ( but not always) this gives the role playing a good basis.

so whilst we wait for others (maybe)

1. What map wil lwe use?

2. Any special mods needed ?

3. Which civ do each of our guinea pigs wish to choose?

World map. TET has an amazing world map that is included in conquests, but its enormous. I posted in his thread over on CivFanatics looking for a smaller version, but I don't think anyone responded. (though I should check back there) But lets try for that.

I made the map we always used in Civ2, but I'm not gonna bother making another map. I wasn't even planning on getting in on another diplo right now. But... ok. At least to get it going, maybe someone can take my place once it gets up and running. I don't think my heart will be in it.

No mods. Lets use conquests though.

Civs... hmm.

I am quite particular about my maps. So you guys find more players and work out a time and such, and I'll find/edit a map to play.

We could go for a Europe map too. That'd be fun. I'm actually leaning that way at the moment.

OK, i've looked through all the maps at CivFanatics, and none measure up to my standards. People seem to have a hardon with huge maps. Go figure.

Looks like I'm gonna have to tweak an existing map. Unless TETurkhan makes a smaller map. His map is excellent, but its friggin huge, and unplayable by us.
