East Germany
The country fortifies its borders and expands its military. For some reason, volunteering for construction brigades has gone significantly up. Must be the glorious socialist work ethic of the German people in action. In any case, this helps with construction of fortifications, public buildings, and housing, which in turn allows more people to work in the new factories, machine shops, and offices of this rebounding country.
Finland
The Olympics were a big hit, perhaps the biggest in history. With the world recovering from a short but damaging war, and even more frightening, teetering on the precipice of nuclear catastrophe, the Olympics provided the outlet for much of the world’s anxiety following the resolution of the conflict. A tremendous amount of public attention from nearly all nations in the world was focused on the games, perhaps in a desire to distract themselves from their own mortality, by a bizarre refusal to acknowledge how close the world was to ending.
Not surprisingly, considering their desire to maintain their neutrality between what was very nearly a World War battleground, the Finns also built up their military a bit.
China
More of the same. China is hauling ass in the industrial and agricultural department.
USA
Treaty of Cairo signed by USSR and USA, which regulates troop presence and withdrawments in Cuba, guarantees Cuban sovereignty, turns over Guantanamo to Cuba, and establishes a DMZ.
(SECRET. USA’s spy in the Cuban Communist Party has risen up the ranks to a fairly high position. Other US spies are at various positions lower in the Party. Agents that deal with the Korean rebels fear that there may be a break in security and information may have been gleaned on the monetary link between the CIA and the rebels.)
In the US political and domestic scene, the ***t has hit the fan, been chopped up into little pungent bits, and plastered gooily all over the room, its furniture, and its outraged inhabitants. The withdrawal from Cuba has been made into a political disaster. A certain Senator Joe McCarthy and his legions of followers, greatly swelled in number after the Cuba debacle, are calling for the resignation of the President, certain leading military figures, and at least half of Congress. While not all the public is behind McCarthy completely in his hysterical accusations of Communist plots and conspiracies within the US government, many of the nation’s citizens are frightened and worried that the US seems to have faired so poorly in the business with Cuba. Less than 18 months before Cuba had been a reasonably pro-U.S. nation. Now it is communist, under Soviet influence, with American interests on the Island wiped out, and nothing to show after an expensive war. Indeed, the war seems to have set the US back in Cuba. People ask, Why?, and are worried that the USSR got the upper hand by being stronger and more resolute.

USSR
USA and USSR have agreed to freeze nuclear stockpile amounts. The Politburo has rallied behind the Leader after the success in Cuba, and of course in state propaganda the success was magnified tenfold, so the well-indoctrinated proles of the USSR can bask in the glory of the unstoppable march of Communism.
Egypt
Egypt begins construction on what will be a monumental dam for flood control and electricity generation, the Farouk King Dam. Thousands of people will be directly employed in the construction of the dam and tens of thousands indirectly over the next few years. Egypt has sent 50 students from all over the country on scholarship to the U.S. to attain the skills necessary to operate the dam. First step: Finding funding, which is proceeding apace.
A number of jobs have been created in the Sudan, through a variety of government-funded construction projects.
Egypt is pleased to announce to her people that they now have a much more professional spy agency. If you want to know more about how the secret police is doing, call (144) 6543 and ask for Ted, Abdul, or X in the Secret Police Public Relations, Complaints, and Requests Dept. Operators are standing by.
Trade agreement with Mexico.
Large groups of officials and citizens are asking for a convention to establish a Constitution and a parliamentary form of government. Sudan has joined these requests and is also asking for their own autonomous regional legislative assembly.
Mexico
Trade agreement with Egypt. Furthermore, Mexico lifts her embargo against the US. And guess what?! Militarization, on a not-insignificant scale! Hmmm, what could this mean? For border security, ostensibly. Efforts are underway to screen all people leaving or entering Mexico, which is presenting some difficulties considering the thousands of miles of porous land and sea borders that Mexico has.
Oooooh, Martial Law. Hardly unsurprising, considering Mexico’s Soviet aspirations. Local governments are putting up quite a bit of fuss over this. To the point where it appears some regions are basically rebelling, since they are ignoring the central govt’s orders.
Cheech Marin has quite a bit of a problem on his hands, as the economy has been crippled by the embargo and now the conscription and forced labor relocation. The power of the Federal government is rapidly dwindling in Mexico.
Cuba
Ah, pieces. Err, peace. Four armies occupy Cuba, and only one of them is Cuban, and the weakest one at that. Soviet, Finnish, and Egyptian regiments all are camped out in former war zones, now that the US has withdrawn. Some Cubans are not happy at this turn, but most support the presence of these foreign armies, because they are all well-behaved, offer a sort of guarantee against a repeat of the American invasion, and perhaps most importantly, pay generously for the myriad supplies that any army 10 thousand miles away from home needs. Despite the devastation on the island, most Cubans are not suffering as many hardships as they might have. Pretty much all can find work, and tens of thousands of former farmers have moved into the towns springing up beside the army barracks. Tremendous numbers of freight ships ply the Cuban coastal water, importing goods and materials paid for in large part by revenues derived from business with the army. Rebuilding is going quickly.
Other News
Scattered reports are coming in from Korea that there seems to be some kind of factional fighting between either rebels or a rival power group against the National government. Little is known, but it has gotten quite violent, with assassination, purges, and intense fighting in several cities.

The President of the United States of America has just suffered a heart attack. The reason is still unknown, but many are quick to blame the heart attack on the amount of stress that has been put on the President. The former Vice President, now President has already begun to form new policies.

Deliver a public apology for the lives lost in Cuba, on the former President's behalf. Also, tell the American people it will never happen again.
Very secretly try to encourage the angry Mexican locals to rebel against their cruel oppressors.
These will be the last funds for our spies in Cuba for a while, for the rest is up to them. Once we get all or most spies high into the government, then I will plan accordingly, until then, getting high up in power is the only task.
With now the best intelligence agency in the world, the United States will look into the leak of information. We can also better help the Korean rebels, with our new information. Two projects should be in the works as of now. One is the assassination of the leader of North Korea, and the other is a bombing of the Communist HQ. These are both big tasks, so the CIA is working their butt off to make sure the rebels can pull it off. To divert attention, we will fake the death of the leader of the Korean rebels, and make it seem like the rebels have given up. Once the Communists put their guard down, the rebels will strike.
