The United Kingdom
In a speech given to in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister, Frank Jackson, He pleged the continued support of Great Britain and Friendship to the United States. He also called the actions of the Soviet Union as unacceptable. "The Soviet Union's actions in Yugoslavia and else were is threating world peace. We cannot let what happen with Germany in 1930's, happen again. As our great leader Churchill said "a great iron curtain has decended upon Europe." I call on all the people of Britain, France and West Germany unite against this common threat to world peace and the free world. If we do not stand up to the communist now, we will fall."
Orders
Allow the United States to base nuclear bombers anywhere in Britain.
Start full scale moblization of the Army, Navy and Airforce.
Move naval forces near Yugoslavia.

Goverment buys quater of an egyptian oil company
Finnish goverment bought 25% of the Egypt National Oil Company. It has been seen as stregthening relationship between Egypt and Finaln, and also as a good investing. The money to buy stock came from the savings made by the end of delivering reparation.
Give peace a chance, says the president
Clip of the president Paasikivi's speech: "Last year was the start of dangerous era. The cuban crisis was nearly the beginnig of WW3, and the Yugoslavias situation is one step nearer to global war. An small act against own interests is a huge act for peace and peacefull future. In eras like this, Finland can do it's part. But not as a judge, but as a doctor. Not to militarily threaten other, but to find solutions to problems peacefully".
Orders:
Buy small amounts of military accessory, tanks and so on. Just in case.
Build up roads, especialy in northern Finland.

January through June 1953
Some time ago a crazy dream came to me,
I dreamt I was walkin' into World War Three,
I went to the doctor the very next day
To see what kinda words he could say.
He said it was a bad dream.
I wouldn't worry 'bout it none, though,
They were my own dreams and they're only in my head.
I said, "Hold it, Doc, a World War passed through my brain."
He said, "Nurse, get your pad, this boy's insane,"
He grabbed my arm, I said "Ouch!"
As I landed on the psychiatric couch,
He said, "Tell me about it."
Well, the whole thing started at 3 o'clock fast,
It was all over by quarter past.
I was down in the sewer with some little lover
When I peeked out from a manhole cover
Wondering who turned the lights on.
Well, I got up and walked around
And up and down the lonesome town.
I stood a-wondering which way to go,
I lit a cigarette on a parking meter
And walked on down the road.
It was a normal day.
Well, I rung the fallout shelter bell
And I leaned my head and I gave a yell,
"Give me a string bean, I'm a hungry man."
A shotgun fired and away I ran.
I don't blame them too much though,
I know I look funny.
Down at the corner by a hot-dog stand
I seen a man, I said, "Howdy friend,
I guess there's just us two."
He screamed a bit and away he flew.
Thought I was a Communist.
Well, I spied a girl and before she could leave,
"Let's go and play Adam and Eve."
I took her by the hand and my heart it was thumpin'
When she said, "Hey man, you crazy or sumpin',
You see what happened last time they started."
Well, I seen a Cadillac window uptown
And there was nobody aroun',
I got into the driver's seat
And I drove down 42nd Street
In my Cadillac.
Good car to drive after a war.
Well, I remember seein' some ad,
So I turned on my Conelrad.
But I didn't pay my Con Ed bill,
So the radio didn't work so well.
Turned on my record player
It was Rock-A-Day, Johnny singin',
"Tell Your Ma, Tell Your Pa,
Our Loves Are Gonna Grow Ooh-wah, Ooh-wah."
I was feelin' kinda lonesome and blue,
I needed somebody to talk to.
So I called up the operator of time
Just to hear a voice of some kind.
"When you hear the beep
It will be three o'clock,"
She said that for over an hour
And I hung it up.
Well, the doctor interrupted me just about then,
Sayin, "Hey I've been havin' the same old dreams,
But mine was a little different you see.
I dreamt that the only person left after the war was me.
I didn't see you around."
Well, now time passed and now it seems
Everybody's having them dreams.
Everybody sees themselves walkin' around with no one else.
Half of the people can be part right all of the time,
Some of the people can be all right part of the time.
But all of the people can't be right all of the time.
I think Abraham Lincoln said that.
"I'll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours,"
I said that.

The first was dropped at 04:32 GMT on Belgrade. After that, nuclear hostilities escalated quickly. No one knows the death toll. It is likely we will never have an accurate count, and we will certainly never be able to differentiate between those who died immediately, those who were wounded and died later, or those who died as a result of disease or fire or starvation, or those who died by other means in the war.
The Gottingen bomb was the last nuclear weapon the USSR was successfully able to deploy in an aerial assault. After that, the far superior numbers of NATO planes simply destroyed any bomber the Soviets sent, as they now lacked air support.
The Soviets have up to this day continued to use smaller ground deployed nuclear weapons in West Germany, Austria, Yugoslavia, and Hokkaido. They have also deployed several types of chemical weapons against military and civilian targets. NATO and the Americans have responded by continuing theatre and tactical nuclear and chemical strikes against Soviet field forces and civilian targets within range, in extreme eastern USSR, northwestern Russia, Ukraine, and the Caucuses.
The combined NATO army, comprised of volunteered regiments, and donation funding and supplies, is fighting a mixed battle with Soviet and Warsaw Pact forces. Submarines and cruisers battle in the Pacific, Channel, and North Atlantic, to no definite conclusion so far. In the Mediterranean, the Soviet blockade of Yugoslavia is being torn apart, the fleet is virtually out of supplies. NATO ships in as many supplies as possible to Yugoslavia by land.
The Soviets launched invasions of Greece, West Germany, and Austria, and are pushing forward there as well as in Yugoslavia by sheer force of numbers and chemical weapons.
The USSR also invaded Japan, where US soldiers and Japanese militia fight the Russians. Due to the naval fighting, the US is having a difficult time shipping in supplies, and certain armaments and equipment that Japan cannot supply are running low.
The Soviets have also invaded the Aleutian islands and mainland Alaska.
But NATO rules the skies. After the first few days, the Soviet air forced was heavily reduced; although NATO suffered losses they were not nearly as costly. NATO is gaining a lot of tactical leverage from their air superiority advantage. The one place where Soviet airforce shortages are matched by American shortages is in Japan.
East Germany
Soviet armies marched through East Germany on their way to get to Western Europe. No official communications were made, simply a broadcasted “We’re coming through” and the Soviet tanks began rolling across the country. There wasn’t much that could be done about it, so the DDR head of government simply made a general announcement, saying to the population via radio in a terse, resigned voice, “Don’t get in the Soviets’ way.”
East Germany now finds itself the de facto ruler of the Soviet conquered West Berlin.
The DDR government is making good use of its new-found autonomy by keeping the people busy with building projects, which the people apply themselves to energetically, but with a certain amount of fatalism, knowing that everything that they build probably is going to get vaporized one way or another before the year is over..
Finland
The government invests huge amounts of money in Egyptian oil, builds roads and buys tanks. The mood is a little tense in this country, and the dust in the air from the not-so-far-off nuclear oblivion does nothing to cheer anyone up. Many wonder whether or not this long winter will ever end.
USA
People are dying. Infrastructure, transportation, water treatment, food shipments, medical shortages, and disease have not been helped by the chaos and confusion that has been created. Still, enormous efforts to contain the damage and take care of the sick and injured have prevented this catastrophe from becoming as bad as it could have been.
USSR
Stalin plunges the world into nuclear war, and then the bastard gets out of it by dying of a brain hemorrhage. His successor, having no other choice, must continue with the events Stalin has set in motion. And lots of Russians et al. have died.
Egypt
Sells oil stocks to the Finnish government. The government builds schools and hospitals and has granted low-interest loans and tax breaks to start-up businesses. The various anti-monarchist cells have lost a lot of their steam, but republican sympathies are by no means an uncommon sentiment among the average citizens.
A strange combination of events have, for now, spared Israel from destruction. By itself,
Egypt’s suggestion of recognizing Israel as a legitimate state would have been laughed off, but the nuclear devastations of Ankara and Bursa have eroded most of the support the SU had been building up in the Middle East. There are still some that support the SU, but that number has dwindled, and most are less vocal about expressing those opinions. Egypt’s ties to the USA have also helped to confuse the issue. So for now, the Arabs’ grand opportunity to eliminate Israel has been passed up.
Mexico
The US’s efforts to implement a capitalist government of Mexico have faltered. The country has nearly been unified, with a high degree of popular support, by a faction that appears it will have moderate socialist policies. The country is still being consolidated and secured by this faction, but they have promised “livelihood, liberty, and justice”.
Cuba
How long the US will suffer this country to exist is unknown.
Yugoslavia
Things are in a bad way in this country. Civilians are having a very difficult time coping with the conventional front against the Soviets and the casualties from Belgrade alike, few of which have adequate medical attention.
Korea
Full scale revolt in Korea against the ruling Communist government. With the world situation the way it is, it’s now or never for the rebels.
Other News
Treaty of Geneva signed, the major points of the treaty are these:
1. Indochina will be split up into 4 independent countries--Kampuchea, Laos, North Vietnam, and South Vietnam.
2. North Vietnam will be headed by the Vietminh under Ho Chi Minh, South Vietname will be headed by the State of Vietnam leadership under Bao Dai.
3. Foreign armies have 40 days to evacuate the new countries, unless they reach an agreement with the respective governments of the occupied territory.
4. Elections in North and South Vietnam will be held in 1956 to determine the nature of North and South Vietnam's reunification.
France is thus pulling out of Indochina as quickly as possible.

To: Soviet Union
Your use of nuclear and chemical weapons will not stand. The United Kingdom has issued a formal declaration of war.
To: All of Western Europe
Great Britain extends its hand in friend ship to all counties that are now suffering from the hands of Soviet Oppersion. We will allow the sick and wounded into Britain for medical treatment as long as we have room in our hospitals. We will begin setting up camps for the victoms and we hope that by doing so we can increase the amount of people that we can treat.
To: United States
We will do everything we can to help defend Europe. Please lets us know if there is anything we can do to help.
To: France
We must moblize all our forces if we hope to stop the Soviets. I hope that France will honor its alliance to Britain and the United States and help in this great time of need.

Alaska is big. Soldiers are going to protect the cities, not the wastelands.
Moscow didn’t get nuked for the same reason Washington DC and Philadelphia and New York et al. didn’t get nuked: The farther into a target’s airspace you get, the longer the time and thus greater the chances the country’s air defenses have to shoot down your bombers.
And your defense program did you a lot of good. You neutralized the Cuban airfields and now have the edge in airpower over Europe.
Things don’t always go as you want them to. That’s the point of the game. Think of communication failures, weather, human error, the initiative or balkiness of your officers, unsuitable equipment, or being outnumbered, or outgunned, or outmaneuvered. On the domestic front, labor strikes, price gouging, cultural burdens, political opposition.
If I make a mistake in interpreting your orders, or grossly overlook a certain fact, and this results in an unfair cost to you, I’ll make it up to your country (not necessarily immediately) with good luck in subsequent events. I resolve orders based on what I believe to be the best combination of fairness, realism, and playability. I have to be fair to the other players, and frankly, if there were no obstacles to overcome, you would just be bored. IC, people are resilient. Your country will survive. Triumph? Maybe, maybe not, but the fun is in trying.
I’m glad you brought up those issues. By all means, challenge my decisions. In this case, I still believe my decisions were valid. Not perfect, but one set out of a possible many. I hope you will keep playing and trying to work with those circumstances.

The race begins in the rough highlands of southern Sudan. The American, East German and Finish teams rev their engines and wait for the starting gun. Then the race is on! The mountain trails are narrow and steep and it is here, with the race only a few hours old that it takes its first dramatic turn. The German team loose their footing and the car slides down a steep ravine into the Nile. It turns out that due to its light construction it floats. The German team soon has a large and ever widening lead. The Americans are forced to hack their way through the winding overgrown trails. The Finish team is wholly unprepared for the rough terrain and makes almost no progress at all, until the Americans are out of sight. Then they simply drive through the swath cleared by Team USA.
The German team loose their momentum in the extensive swamps of the Bahr el Jabal, while the Americans pick up the pace as the mountains give way to hills and finally open grasslands. The Fins can’t match the speed of the huge Detroit motor but are making good time as well over the easy ground. The German team still has the lead however, when they clear the swamp and drift into Khartoum.
Determined to regain the lead the Americans race past the ancient city faster than a cheetah. At these speeds navigation proves difficult and before they know it they are deep in the Nubian Desert and well off course. The German team on the other hand has thrown out there maps to lighten their boat/car. Progress is steady but they are forced to leave the river to drive around the numerous falls or cataracts. Surrounded by the incredible artifacts of the 4th cataract they suffer problem after problem and finally catastrophe. Tires are punctured, repaired and punctured again, but all progress stops when the rear axle snaps. It is here that the Fins and their methodical pace take the lead.
Finally out of food, water and fuel the American team is saved by a Bedouin caravan. They are happy to bring the driver and navigator all the way to Wadi Halfa on the Egyptian border, but convincing them to tow the heavy sedan requires all the money in their wallets. The Germans also receive help from the locals. The only parts available are from locally manufactured wooden carts, but they seem to do the trick. The Fins also are forced to seek help from the locals when it comes time to order at the Abu Hamed hotel restaurant. They have dinner, catch a show and turn in early.
Finally passed the second cataract, the Germans return to the river for that last time and set sail for Cairo 1000 km away. When the Americans restock and start out they are shocked to hear that the Fins and Germans are three days ahead.
Still they gain rapidly. At Aswan where the multi-national crew of engineers cheer their respective teams they have already gained a whole day on the competition. The Germans leave Luxor only a day ahead of the American team, and only a few hours behind the Fins. Now the American team is forced to make larger and larger detours to avoid the wide farmlands that flank the Nile. Even traveling hundreds of extra miles, they still manage to gain ground.
Finally the racers reach the edge of Cairo. Here they all but stop and all the leads rapidly shrink to nothing. The Fins reach the city first but excited crowds force them to come to a complete stop until police can restore order and clear the way, but it is no faster than walking. The huge American car is a tight fit through the narrow streets even with out the crowds and traffic. Mean while the German team has run into problems of their own. Driving out of the river up a boat ramp, they discover that the last few days on the water has rotted the wagon wheel axel and it snaps once again. A local bicycle shop is happy to help with the repairs, and soon they click into low speed and start off again.
As the teams converge on the finish line they can see each other down side streets as they race neck and neck down parallel roads. It seams like it will be a photo finish, but at these speeds a painting would probably do. And the winner (determined by coin toss) is FINLAND! Go white and blue!
DDR takes second place
USA is third by mere moments
