A fresh X-box is cheaper than a new graphics card. Consoles are far less expensive than PCs even if you buy a whole new one every two or three years.

Besides, it's not just one game. You're welcome to expand your horizons. Halo 2, Jade Empire, and a whole slew of games that are already out (like Ninja Gaiden) might be fun - if you give them a chance. Or just hate on other people having fun.

Way too many people on this board hate on games that they've never even played. I can't count how many times I've seen people say that a game sucks because it's 3D or because it "lacks gameplay." Lacks gameplay is what people say when they can't think of any actual criticism; if the game is over too quickly, fine; if the controls are clumsy and impossible to change, fine; if the AI is retarded, fine; but to make a general statement like "lacks gameplay" is just a supercilious way of saying "it sucks because I say so and there."

I'm optimistic about Fable. PM has made mistakes - I didn't really like how dumb the villagers were in B&W - but he's got good ideas, and I'd like to see how this one plays out.

but my PC isn't just a gaming machine. I also use it to post at Poly

Console games tend to be made for little kids. Very amatuerish.

As for this game, if it's any good they will release it for the PC. So I'll wait and see.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

I don't think for a moment that console games are made for little kids. Back in the day it was true, but the gamers with the big bucks are older now, and able to handle more advanced and mature games. And if anything is amatuerish, it's PC games, where anybody with a computer and a C compiler can crap out a piece of ****. Consoles since the NES have had standards to weed out the worst of the worst.

I would agree though that PCs have more functionality. but I've grown tired of buying new computers and upgrading for hundreds and even thousands of dollars. Once you have your base functionality, your gaming dollars are probably better spent on consoles.

Consoles are more stable, effectively immune to viruses, have fewer headaches with multiplaying, all for less than a comparable PC. While they're not for everybody, I'd say that they do deserve a look, especially if you haven't looked at the latest generation.

But to each their own. I'm sorry if I seem overly harsh Diss, I just get annoyed by some of the attitudes I see. I was a hater on consoles for a while, but the X-box really changed my views on them. And you're right, any good idea is likely to end up on the PC in the end.

I think it's supposed to be real time, but with certain features to slow it down. An interview with PM I saw on Tech TV had him saying that there would be spells you could cast to get a sort of bullet time action going on.

I think it will be simple enough for most people to handle, except in the boss fights, without magic. This isn't intended as an action game.

That's total bullshit. Just look at games like Fallout: Botherhood of Steele. There is no standard to weed out the worst of the worst.

I'll make this easy. Games I like to play are:

civ3, smac, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate/Infinity games.

Are any of these games on console? No.

Games I may possibly play in the future. World of Warcraft, Everquest 2. Are they on console?

the only games that have been on X-box I would play are Morrowind (which I grew bored of) and KOTOR. But I have already played the PC versions.

No, it's based off genres I like. I like TBS games and RPG's.

And yes I have tried other games. I mentioned I tried Doom2. It just didn't interest me very much. I have also played Halo for about 1 hour.

I know people who played Civ for an hour and didn't like it. Mostly because instead of approaching the game with a mindset of trying to enjoy it, they decided ahead of time that it would be boring. They sit down to a TBS judging it on FPS standards and come away disappointed.

I think that most games have merit. Some get old quicker than others, but the real reason people don't like games is because they decide ahead of time they won't like it. There are excellent games in all genres that anybody who wants to have fun will enjoy. Y'all see, video games are like girls. Folks might claim to prefer personality to T&A, but in reality, real men will be just as happy with a vapid big tittied slut as a poetic intellectual chick. It's just that you'll like them for different reasons.

I've had a sneaking suspicion recently as well -- mainly when they chopped off parts of the game and simplified it. It smells like MOO3 to me.

Unlike MOO3, however, Molnieux isn't the type of designer who is going to be 'rushed' by the publisher. He's got a big enough name to say sod off. Black and White may not have been that great of a game, but it didn't seem rushed in anyway.

Anyway, I'm REALLY looking forward to this. Between this, Doom3, Half Life 2, KOTOR2, and Jade Empire (which I think will be the best X-Box game of the year) I'll be spending a good amount on my X-Box .

There's a BIG Fable video on the new Xbox demo disc from the official Xbox magazine (which is a worthless POS publication by the way). The video makes the game at least look pretty kick ass.

Thanks for pointing it out, Bustamike. JESUS, this game looks AMAZING! The video shows off a lot of combat (and the boast circle is pretty cool). And the interaction with villagers is utterly amazing. People remember if you were flirting with them before. If you run around with just your underwear people laugh at you and notice that you are barely dressed. It's incredible how much people seem to remember about you.

Arcanum and even Morrowind had this to some extent.

Not even close to the same level. You have to see it (and I've played both Arcanum and Morrowind). I mean a lot of this stuff happens just walking by other people (you don't have to engage them in conversation) which makes the world seem more 'real' and much more living. I mean other games make the claim that the world goes on without you, but from the movie I've seen of 'Fable' no game comes close to how it does it.
