Interesting, it appears from this thread that black people are supposed to think a certain way. Isn't that a racist notion?

Keyes has been really screwing up ever since he got in this race. When Hillary ran for senate in NY Keyes was calling her a carpetbagger etc and how he would NEVER imitate her. So now that he's imitating her? "The people called upon me to serve"... Yeah yeah, how many times have we heard that? Wasn't that Bill Clinton's excuse after he told Arkansans he wouldn't run for a different office if they elected him governor? So he gets elected and starts running for Prez and explains how he went around Arkansas asking people for permission to run and they told him to go for it... "we need you as Prez, Bill"...

Several years after my graduation one of my favorite high school teachers was fired because he was "racist."

He embraced the "white" culture of achievement, that achievement is measurable, and should be rewarded.

He hated the "black" culture of entitlement, unwed motherhood, anti-intellectualism, etc. He firmly believed that kids who didn't study and therefore fail should, indeed, be failed and suffer the consequences.

He made the mistake of speaking his mind one day, and it got him fired. Oh, and yes, he is himself black.

It's quite possible that he meant to say black and white. At any rate, you can't do that as a teacher. You are suppose to be a leader and earn the respect of your students.

He was blaming black people. It's no wonder he came off as racist. That's no way to gain the respect of your students. And if they don't respect you you shouldn't be their teacher. They will do much better learning from someone they respect.

and its not really about blame. it's about opening people's eyes to the contradictions and problems in their own society so they can address these problems and be better people for it.

Opening people's eyes is good. Blaming their culture and acting superior to them will not make them listen to you, especially teenagers. Trust me, I taught highschool. I wasn't a good teacher, but I know why I wasn't and I knew successfull teachers.

The truth is, if the Repugs weren't so racist, I think most Black people would be very happy in the GOP. On issues of culture, Black people tend to be very conservative. It's only in areas of economic justice that Black are liberal. However, the Repugs are so racist that even when they try and say they aren't racist, they do it in racist ways.

Before the GOP turned its backs on Black people in the 1930s. It's funny how Repugs like to forget that they and the Democrats switched places from the 30s to the 70s, with all the segregationists ending up in the GOP.

As for perceived racism, yes, Black people perceive racism in the GOP, because it's there. Black people are generally smart enough to be able to tell when someone is patronizing them or treating them badly. I know it's a shock, but Black people actually have the same five senses you have, and the same ability to use a brain than you have. They're a lot smarter than you give them credit for.
