We do not need to concern with AI diplomacy questions. Finding is as expected, question still remains which one? I would leave out Sparta, since they would not obviously leave so many pods - they are great pod poppers. So we have either Angels or Morgans in my opinion. If we move Spore Launcher there we will probably establish contact since the faction will see us on their next turn and will contact us. Question is, do we really want this to happen?
See my opinion in diplomacy thread about other things-

We will at least have contact with em, it's an advantage, but if we don't want to talk with them, we can be silent or at least politely explain that "we, the feeble Gaians are not worthy to have trade with you as we do not posess any valuable items right now"
Little bit of lie..uh!

About those synhtmetal probes - GOOD IDEA, but we dont definitely want them to be in all bases as such things (full rows after pod) doesnt appear in core bases, only in those to whom the pods are closest..

I havn't seen the turn to estimate where the enemy might be. Consider an approach from the side, to throw them off the location of our homeland. It's unfortunate that the Hive territory was learned so early b/c approaching from the North leaves the most questions for whatever faction it is.....

Play it. Play it. Play it.

Plan of Action for 2132 Support Apolyton, buy Civilization III: Complete

Prepare for popping the pod on the new continent, without making attempts at initiating contact with other factions.

Attempt to kill/capture the stray native life

Heal the mind worm nearest the unity foil, in preparation for boarding in 2133. Alternatively, we can board in 2132, if it's possible.

Keep probe gimps in production.

It looks like our foil made it home before we were ready. Since the MW can move 3 over the fungus, we don't save too much movement by loading up now, or do we? If our MW get's bogged down plowing fungus-worms, we'll never get to HiveLand or points north, so yeah, I'm for loading the MW sooner, then paddling our canoe north. It's not a great situation though, considering how frail our foil is. A wandering IoD could sink us.

Perhaps the safer plan would be to heal one more turn and slowly move north along the land, not risking our worm at sea. It's currently a good blocker for the worm herd. What do people think?

CT, could you be a little more specific about the plans for our New World rover and SL? I can't really tell where you were thinking of moving them...

I'm proposing moving the rover and spore launcher to the tile 1 west of the pod, and then moving the spore launcher to the pod in 2133, with the rover and launcher available to clean up any mess.

Please notice that VS and FT have pods in close vicinity, so they should build synthmetal probes (gimps I suppose), to effectively gain 100% build by pod!

About movements in the W continent - OK!
We could alike also to the N, where is a MW and rover - move them close and then pop that pod to SW from rover
Rover should be anyway dislocated to non-fungus & non-fungus-in-vicinity area for healing

I can put a 6-row PT in production right before popping a pod, and switch back if the pod doesn't grant a full hurry.

Plan of Action for 2133 Support Apolyton

Heal northern mind worm once more

Send northern rover further north to explore, as it will not be able to heal anymore in the field.

Pop pod on new continent with spore launcher

Continue to opportunistically rush probe gimps

Decisions:

One of our cities (can't remember which) will be finishing a probe team. What next? Do we want another former (which we can support somewhere without cost, IIRC), more probe gimps for a SP, a CP that we might have trouble using, or what?

Former, if we can re-home for zero support. Otherwise a PT. Strangely, we could take a CP across the ocean to someone elses continent, before we meet them, but that's a little too agressive, not to mention slow with our foil.

Also, we need to start thinking about whether to try for contact with our rover/SL on the new world after popping this pod.

There's a difference between making a probe team and a probe gimp:

Probe team: ideal for probe operations
Probe gimp: ideal for disbanding, gives the stockpile energy kick more often, good for probe defense (not that we need that now)

With 3 probe teams on the way, we don't really need more probe offense without contact. I say we make more probe gimps.

There certainly is a difference. While we are cash strapped I do prefer the 1-1-1 probe team to the 1-1-2. There are times when the extra minerals from a 1-1-2 are preferable however.

So what's your opinion on how/when to contact the New World faction? To all the others, Chaos Theory and I play a very similar game. That doesn't mean there aren't other opinions out there. Please do keep contributing!

Speaking of which, I wonder where Net Warrior has been?

I don't understand what you mean by the extra minerals of a 0-1-2 probe team.

0-1-2: 27 to build, 13 when disbanded
0-1-1: 18 to build, 9 when disbanded

For the same number of mineral in, you get about the same number of minerals out, assuming that city production is small. Furthermore, rush buying is easier with smaller builds, and you get the stockpile energy bonus more often. In an emergency, the build can be switched with less penalty. And on defense, 0-1-1s are much more cost-effective.

When you must move the PT quickly to the SP.

When you can build either in 1 turn and don't need cash.

When you are afraid of invaders. A 1-1-2 can move to intercept better than a 1-1-1 obviously.

When you are unsure if the PT will be needed for the SP or not. 1-1-1's are pure defenders. 1-1-2's have some flexibility.

Etc..

What I mean is that 1-1-1's are good, but so are 1-1-2's.

Don't we have the opportunity to put 1-2-2 probe teams in bases close to pods?
We need the most expensive units available there!

I saw in one game I'm how Morgan(!) finished a 4-2-2 rover by pod poppin and switched it to SP - he had 50(IIRC) mins already!

We can do that whenever we're about to pop a pod. However, those expensive units do not need to be in production most of the time. Here's how it works:

Base is producing whatever
You find a pod nearest that base
Base switches to expensive unit, possibly losing some production in switching
You pop the pod. If it hurries the unit, great!
Otherwise, switch the base back to its original build, regaining the lost production.

Thus, you will not see an expensive unit like a 0-2-2 in production at the end of the turn unless it has actually been hurried.

We could not rush a unit and then switch production to a SP. IIRC, you lose lots of minerals if you switch after a hurry pod.

The really big units, mineral wise, come much later for us: 1-3-2-t supply truck. That will build a single early SP all by itself, almost. The chance of getting one built by a pod are not that great. But we can hope.

The odds of pod rushes aren't that great, but in a PBEM I have an opponent who effectively got 4 huge crawlers in 9 turns, from those pods. Fortunately, it's not a crippling blow, but it certainly could have been.

Plan of Action for 2134 Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

We need to decide what to do with our foil - drive north through fungus or abandon going north. I say go north.

We have even more native life in the north. Our units total 3 mind worms, 1 probe team, and 1 rover up there. We could maybe take a shot at Yang.

How do we handle our units on the Angel continent now?

Here I'd vote for absolute conservatism r/e our foil. Unless we find out that we are not connected by land in the north....

The foil could be too useful getting probes across, and, like you said, possibly having a go at someone with a worm army....Lets finish exploring our continent and move the foil along the south coast of whatever landmass is just north of us.

On the Angel continent, I say take one more turn moving in towards them to get maximum exploration. Then retreat to kill the fungal towers and possible exit via foil.
