PETA is filled with idiots Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Watched Penn and Teller's:Bullshit last night about PETA.

They claim that animals shouldn't be caged, killed, eaten, tested on or owned as pets.

They equate this with the slavery of the black man.

Example from PETA Website:

quote:
“What's wrong with factory farms or fur farms Aren't animals worse off in the wild, where they die of starvation, disease, or predation? At least the animals on factory farms and fur farms are fed and protected.”
A similar argument was used to support the claim that black people were better off as slaves on plantations than as free men and women. The same could also be said of people in prison, yet prison is considered to be one of society’s harshest punishments. Animals on factory farms suffer so much that it is inconceivable that they could be worse off in the wild. The wild isn’t “wild” to the animals who live there—it’s their home. There, they have their freedom and can engage in their natural activities. The fact that they might suffer in the wild is no reason to ensure that they suffer in captivity.

So basically, they are saying if the black man or woman has rights why don't animals?

No, because they attack it on two fronts: the first is that you wouldn't say slavery is okay if it meant that the slaves had a better quality of life as a result, and the second is that even if you reject that comparison, it doesn't matter because the quality of life of animals on factory farms is far worse than in the wild.

You have failed to make PETA look like fools: few people manage this.

Okay, how about the fact that they protest animal shelters for killing animals.

But, they themselves put animals to sleep.

In 1995 they spent almost 7000 dollars for a freezer. ~16X10.

Which has 2 uses, meat storage or cadaver storage.

In that year they put to sleep 1200 animals.

Free all those animals, give them the same rights as humans.

When they start killing each other (which animals do), we then arrest them since they have committed murder) and, guess what, put them in cages, or execute them.

That will work.

That would just be the natual result of natural selection, so they wouldn't really mind. Hundreds of millions of animals already starve to death every year, PETA would probably treat them the same as they treat the current casualties.

They make the redundant initial argument in the part you quote to appealto people who think that if animals were better off in farms than in the wild (And some animals certainly are) it's still wrong to them.

We're animals too! So why isn't what we do "natural?"

What about hunting? Does PETA allow us to hunt, or is that reserved for wolves, etc? If yes, are we limited in our choice of weapons?

Everyone: Please take your arguments and semantics up with actual members of PETA.

That stuff about the PETA VP who uses insulin with animal products in it was interesting though, so I looked it up a bit closer. I shouldn't really be surprised at the hypocrisy though.

Enter the AD-FREE zone

Because we hunt with tools. If we'd run after a gazelle, and rip it's throat open to kill it, then rip chunks of meat from the carcas to eat it...

No problem for PETA.

One can't hunt potatoes... And look sane, speaking from experience.

There is a difference between rushing to someone's defense and saying someone is doing a poor job of exposing a certain group as being a bunch of loons. The opening post of Tuberski's did not provide a good enough reason to laugh at PETA (Subsequent posts did). The fact that they mentioned slaves and animals in the same thread of though does not make "Hurr hurr they think black people are animals" a logical extension of the quote he posted. I would be rolling my eyes at attempting to mock them with as pathetic a gag as "carrots have feelings too".

Also: I would prefer if you didn't tell me what to do as it makes me think you're a complete nobend. And I don't like thinking my fellow posters are nobends.

Double also: apologies for creating the cross-post

Tattila, correct, but our weapon of choice is the brains. Because we are smarter than other animals, that's the reason we have more power and are at the top of the food chain. Why wouldn't that considered to be natural?

Besides, Chimps use tools to hunt. They will fashion stick-tools to get at small insects and stuff like that.
