My starting location turned out to be really bad. No horses or iron around. So I couldn't even try to resist those massive arabian forces.

No kidding ... in fact all the iron seems to be quite far away, excepting the one that Wittlich has... very unusual resource distribution, but then again it's a very unusual map shape as well
