Does Israel dare delay any further? It is facing imminent nuclear annihilation.

"TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran added a "strategic missile" to its military arsenal after a successful test, and the defense minister said Saturday his country was ready to confront any external threat.

The report by state-run radio did not say whether the test involved the previously announced new version of the Shahab-3 rocket, capable of reaching Israel and U.S. forces stationed in the Middle East, or a different missile.

"This strategic missile was successfully test-fired during military exercises by the Revolutionary Guards and delivered to the armed forces," Defense Minister Ali Shamkhani was quoted as saying.

The exercises were held Sept. 12-18.

The development of the Shahab, whose name means "shooting star" in Persian, has raised fears in Israel about possible attack by the Iranian government, which strongly opposes the Jewish state's existence.

Iran's not that insane. Some of their peeps might be, but the ayatollah and his buddies aren't going to go nuclear., or even conventional.

I think they just realized they'd better accelerate their program, before the US took a serious interest. Once you got it your good.

No it's not. The threat is yet very unclear. However, I recognize the situation between Iran and Israel, and Israel needs to watch out really carefully, so they won't have to negotiate about what to do so they don't nuke'em. Which they won't do IMO, but they can use that as leverage, so, I'd say that is the threat that is existing.

Lets see:

Iran has 7 countries bordering it: Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

One of them in nuclear, 2 of them are US occupied and in "reconstruction mode", 3 of them are no issues and one is a NATO member. Why wouldn't Iran make sure to have a strong military?!?

And of course, it is not the Iranians talking about striking at another states nuclear facilities, facilities under no foreign inspection and known to the world be be used to produce nuclear weapons...

Yep. They see what has happened with North Korea and Iraq (as the other "Axis of Evil" states). You got a nuke and you are untouchable. I'd also suggest that if you got a large military you would also be untouchable, and that is what Iran is banking on.

I think "threat" and "capability" are two different things.

Annihilation is not impending. It would be if military extremists managed to seize control of Iran, support a coup and gain power over nuclear facilities, but right now Iran is "capable" but not "threatening".

Israel can't afford to start a full-scale war there. Not only Iran is much bigger, several other countries will then definitely also attack Israel. And Israel can't be fighting Iran, Syria, Lebanon and someone else at the same time.

US currently has almost everything deployed. There's one normal undeployed brigade - and one brigade + special forces isn't going to deal with a country like Iran. Iran would be at least as hard to beat as Iraq, and probably harder.

Which leaves us with no countries to take care of the problem. No European country would launch an offensive, while Russia supports the Iranian nuclear program. Looks like the only option of Israel is to bomb Iranian nuclear facilities.
