Yeah, the one that really gets me is the question about the free market and controls. I think it's something like "in a truly free market, it is necessary to have controls to prevent multi-national corps from forming monopolies".
The thing is, in a TRUE free market, you wouldn't have any controls. But I think the question is asking if you favor controls. I think the market does need some regulation - but it doesn't change the fact that as soon as you regulate it, it isn't a TRUE free market any more.

I agree, it's not the greatest test, especially for those of us whom have actually worked on enviornmental policy. Anyway:
Economic Left/Right: -3.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.44
C'mon, who's the jerkwad that actually feels they should be proud of where they born?

OK, here's the actual statement:
quote: A genuine free market requires restrictions on the ability of predator multinationals to create monopolies. |
The thing is, everyone should disagree with the statement because it is factually untrue - a genuine free market simply doesn't have any controls. However, whether or not you think a geniune free market is desirable is another matter.

Just for the hell of it, I went through again and clicked Strongly Agree for every single question. Apparently that gets you:
Econ: 0.00
Social: 4.36

Actually, that's not true.
A free market does not mean a market without regulations, but the law of supply and demand works freely without obstructions. A market with a monopoly no longer fits that criterion. |
Um, no. Pick up an economics text book and read a bit about free markets and monopolies. I think you might be confusing a free market with a purely competitive market. There is nothing about a free market which precludes monopolies, nor are monopolies inherently bad in a free market.
