I was thinking about how people speak. Even in one language, there's tons of different regional variations. English English, Australian English, Canadian English, Southern English, Yankee English, they're all different and although not an actual pain in the ass, the differences are there and noticable.
Knowing how many language nuts there are here, here's an examples of something I said lately. Analyze it.
"Down at th'ol' house, we had a winder that went from one room to another"
That's not all! Here's a few words and phrases.
"ain't", "y'all", "fer," "whut fer" (also whuffer sometimes.)
And there's lots of double negatives and extra words here and there.
"I done got the book"
"I ain't no sucker"
"Yo," "Ya," and "yer":
"Yo! Whazzup y'all?"
"Shut yo trap."
"Ya dropped yer pencil."
My parents are "ma" and "pa". My relatives are my "folks," and I have cuzins and gramma and grampa. What fer? Jus' becuz.
Lastly, I don't care for the obscenity level. There's usually a "sh*t" or "d*mn" every here and there.
"You can't see sh*t, son. It's right in front uh ya."
'Damn book's worse'n the phone book fer story."
It's not like I don't know proper English, it's just that I don't speak it without a conscious effort. Of course I write this stuff correct all the time, but who'm I to worry about how I speak?
"I'll pick up some Cokes if'n the corner store's still open."
One a y'all English nuts lemme know if there's any details ya can glean from this about my dialect or which century of English English it's closest to, or other things like that.
Sometimes I get "Winder?" or "You had an ideer?" But them're all just haters anyway. Overall there ain't no reaction.

didnt i already say he speaks identical to someone from North Philly? he's clearly an east coast urbanite in his dialect... he's inconsistant with 'your' and 'for' and what not though... half the time he says "yer" and "fer" (god knows where that came from) and the other half he says "yo" and "fo" (definently east coast city)

Atlanta being an east coast urban center... just like philly... well except for south philly where they sound like Rocky or your typical Italian-American featured in mob and ww2 movies.

Imran:
of course southernors and urbanites share the same basic dialect... there's differences between plantation, highlands, etc. but yeah... east coast city dwellers share a dialect with the southernors...
the italian dialect also has some southern features though not really.

i said: Whut yall tawkin bout?
you said: Whut er y'all tawkin a-bout?
the difference: addition of 'are' and the pronouncing of 'a' in about. grammer difference which i contend isn't significant as i'm sure many rednecks dont even bother with the a in about and what not.
i said: Aint I just done proved my point?
you said: Ain't I just proved my point?
Difference: The word done... now Mitchell made it clear he used the word done in this context... so Mitchell must be talking ghetto, not redneck, right? he said that he says, "I done got the book"
