Well into the thousands. I'm pretty sure I was getting close to a thousand. A quick count tells me I have about 450 here, and half of my collection is back in NZ. I also inherited most of my Dad's CDs after he died. He had more than me. I guess I must be closer to 2000 than 1500. By far the most of them are classical. I sold most of my rock CDs back in 1998, and I only have the stuff I really like (Zeppelin, Floyd, Who, Stones, etc.).
40 gigs is supposed to be 10,000 songs at 128kbps. Just say that the average album has about 12 songs on it.
I guess I'd be able to fit about 1250 CDs worth onto a 60 gig ipod. I would like a higher bitrate, but I don't need to rip all 5 (or 6) versions of Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra that I have, so I might get most of it on.
80 gigs would definitely hit the spot though.
