hmm, okay. I never liked how easily one can "fall" to the darkside, or redeem themselves. But that is a failing with the whole star wars philosphy, so I can't fault the game for that.

I didn't like the white angel/blatantly the son of the devil nature of the choices in KotoR, but having seen Anekin change from honourable jedi to child killing murderer in a few seconds, on questionable grounds, it seems like the game was a good augur of what was to come.

Anyone ever seen Richard III on stage? The way he woos and wins Lady Anne is woo(tly).

Such things can and do happen - but they are hardly commonplace. Star Wars is a story of heroes and villains, and it would be pretty dire if the commonplace ruled absolute and nothing heroic or villainous happened.

And where did you see this? Anakin went through a good few year or so of sliding down the dark side, on very justifiable grounds, really.

Its done well, especially his realization that the Jedi are just as power hungry as the Sith when Windu goes to strike down Palpatine.

Which is utterly irrelevent. Dooku was obviously a Sith Lord, but Anakin realized it was a mistake to strike him down unarmed. Darth Vader was a biggest baddest dude in the Lucasverse and Luke realized it was wrong to strike him down unarmed.

Striking people down unarmed is a BIG no-no for the Jedi in Star Wars universe. Doesn't matter if he's a Dark Lord of the Sith.

Windu was violating a basic principle of the Jedi order, indicating to Anakin that Palpatine may be right and the Jedi are NOT in it for the light side, but to consolidate their power.

Yes, for those predisposed to want to hate anything in the movie.

The 'turn' was a long time coming and only natural when Palpatine told Anakin that the Jedi care nothing for their code. Then Anakin witnesses it for himself. It doesn't matter how bad someone is supposed to be, you can't strike down an unarmed opponent and be on the light side. The theme is replayed again and again. That is why Luke didn't strike down Vader and why Obi-Wan didn't strike down Anakin.

But it wasn't that the Jedi were being corrupted and were going to the Dark Side, it's that the "Jedi Code" is fundamentally flawed, and things that the Sith are right about.

Yes indeed, Palpatine NEVER insinuated that the Jedi were going to the Dark Side. In fact, Palpatine's point, as I see it, was that the light side / dark side distinction was something created in order for the Jedi to consolidate their power. They act as though their 'code' makes them a strong moral force, but will get rid of it whenever it is necessary to keep their power.

He drilled this into Anakin at the beginning of RotS, then when he saw Windu abandoning Jedi teachings, what Palpatine said made sense.

The code may indeed be fundamentally flawed, but the Jedi did say they lived by it, and Anakin saw it was being cast aside. Remember that Anakin probably wasn't all the way on the light side since the end of AotC.

Just finished KOTOR2 yesterday.

Nice game, it's fairly long, the dialogue is great, and it seems it has some replay value (at least, I think I can start a new interesting game with a dark side character, contrary to my original light side one).

However, the story is a bit too intertwined with KOTOR1, and I felt I was missing something, as I never played KOTOR1. Nonetheless, a solid game, and a good expansion to NWN

I'm having trouble getting into KOTOR2. It seems like they made it more complicated for my liking, as I'm not into D&D at all; the beginning has been fairly slow and ponderous, and what? I'm playing a character who doesn't know who he is? This sounds familiar.

Actually, you know who you are. During discussions about your past, no matter the option you choose, your answers are definitive (for example, in the first discussion with Atton, you can say that Revan was a man - the rest of the game will thus always refer to Revan as to a "he").

Your character actually does know who he is and what he has done.

but you as the player don't. (and how could you?)

so the game gives you the option of saying, yes, I know what happened at Malachor V. Or it gives the player the option of asking what happened at Malachor V.

It's not like he has amnesia like the first game (which I do find annoying). I thought they handled this aspect better than the first game.

Although the character does forget one thing. What happened on the republic ship. But that's because the he was knocked unconcious by a certain type (I won't spoil who did this). So he/she does forget the events that happened when he/she was drugged.
