I, for one, like the French labels. They boost my vocabulary. And I'd never look at nutritional info.

It's true that they are of a different society -- one that is completely unappreciative of Canada's history, actions, and efforts. You're buying into the same bashing mentality that is regularlly pointed at Alberta. Isn't it about time we stopped playing the game of the federalist media? Stop being divided, and recognise that there are people who stand a lot to gain by having Quebecois and Albertans at each other's throats?

They're scared shitless. The last time things were calm in the East, Alberta and Quebec got together and put Mulroney in power. Ever since then there has been a determined campaign to split Quebec from the West, and paint Ontario as the moderate, reasonable province.

Don't you get it? Quebec, Alberta, and BC could name the tune that this country dances to. We are being distracted by flaps about flags.

Hurumpfff!

Going on in that vein.

When Tredeau was prancing around, full of himself, and thinking that he should be the author of our Constitution, who was Leveque's ally against Ottawa?

If you say Lougheed and Alberta, you win a beaver pelt.

Later on, when the nation had had enough of Liberals, and really needed a change, it was Alberta and Quebec that drove the stake into the heart of the vampire. Unfortunately, the creature lived on in Ontario and the stake was removed. The Liberals revived. They've been revived for 20 years now. How much longer? Do you think Ontario is ever going to toss them? They never have in the past.

Alberta and Quebec are natural allies in Confederation. We both want to be left alone to run our own shows. When will we resume acting on that?

Ontario historically voted opposites for provincial and federal elections. Since the Tory 'Big Blue Machine' ruled the province for some 40+ years we usually vote Liberal federally. As you know, we have libs at both levels of gov now so the potential for change is there. Will we switch and go back to the Torys provincially or dump the Liberals in Ottawa? My money is on the former.

Soon I hope. I mentioned earlier the sad reality of feds intruding on jurisdiction (indeed several items on the provincial rights list you provided earlier are already in that category...). Our best hope rests with Alberta and Quebec to defend these rights.

There was a map in the UK papers (which i assume came from the US) about the United States of Canada where the East and West coast 'liberals' (the Kerry Voters) joined Canada. The rest of America was renamed 'Jesusland'.
Seemed an interesting idea, if not especially serious, states like New York joining Canada rather than the other way round

My version is slightly different. I drew it based on a different map before seeing the Jesusland one.

These divisions are harmful to a Canada united, that Quebec gets special treatment.

Isn't that what Diefenbaker fought, to have one Canada, rather than French and English Canadians?

Why can't the BQ just honour the vets who fought in France to save France?

Nobodies spitting, Ben. The BQ have a policy of not distributing flags, for some good reason it seems. A Legion asked for flags and were directed to where they could get them.

Yes, this guy could have been a bit more clever, as it seems some other BQ MPs have been, but he certainly didn't spit on anyone or their memories.

It is harmful that Canadians go ballistic on each other when their differences are exploited in the press. Those differences aren't going to go away by Westerners screaming 'traitor' at Quebecois, and Quebecois replying with taunts of 'redneck'.

re honouring the vets, the fellow says he would be happy to participate in Legion events, he just wasn't gonna be a dispenser of flags. I don't see why it needs to be blown into a big deal.

You are assuming Quebecois identify themselves with France the way Anglos once did with the British Empire. That might be a mistake considering that France chose to sacrifice 'a few acres of snow' to keep the wonderland that was Guadeloupe.

He also said something to the effect "If they (the vets) want to play with their flags that's OK..."

His tone was insulting. Press or no press.

I understand the no win situation BQ MPs find themselves in, but when you are a traitor to the country in the country's parliament I guess you can expect such troubles.

Yeah, that's the word, "traitor". What are you waiting for to hang them?

Be glad this Anglo overreaction hasn't made it to the French media (which belongs to Power Corp. anyway), because then that would just fuel support for separatism.

Which is why OB's claims that the WW2 vets fought under the banner of Britain, makes no sense. They fought as Canadians.

Secondly, I would say the Quebecois did far better under British rule in the Dominion of Canada, than they ever did under France. They have no justification to believe that the Brits ever used them for cannon fodder any more so than they did the other Canadians.

Let the media in Quebec spit on the Vets.

That's really going to enhance their standing.

Sad the BQ can't put aside their agenda for one day, and aren't willing to stand up to those who do not have the best interests of Quebec in mind.
