Would I, personally, hand over these flags? Yes. Is it a big deal that they won't? NO. |
The veterans who risked their lives, the relatives of those who died, and those of us with respect for what those men did think it is a big deal that, out of policy, a federal political party will refuse to provide flags to help commemorate those who fought and died for our freedom.
It is tasteless and lunacy, and I am not surprised in the slightest that the average person from Quebec does not understand that. It's true that they are of a different society -- one that is completely unappreciative of Canada's history, actions, and efforts. One that is undeserved of all of the special treatment and recognition and money that they get.

You're buying into the same bashing mentality that is regularlly pointed at Alberta. Isn't it about time we stopped playing the game of the federalist media? Stop being divided, and recognise that there are people who stand a lot to gain by having Quebecois and Albertans at each other's throats?
They're scared shitless. The last time things were calm in the East, Alberta and Quebec got together and put Mulroney in power. Ever since then there has been a determined campaign to split Quebec from the West, and paint Ontario as the moderate, reasonable province.
Don't you get it? Quebec, Alberta, and BC could name the tune that this country dances to. We are being distracted by flaps about flags.
Hurumpfff!

Actually, it's definately the BQ. When your constituents ask you to do something as harmless as handing out flags, and you refuse out of some stupid ideological purity or whatever, you're the one making an issue. |
The local office of the Bloc MP did hand out Canadian flags before, only to be laughed at in the local media because a separatist was promoting Canada.
No win situation.

quote: Interesting. The United States of Canada |
There was a map in the UK papers (which i assume came from the US) about the United States of Canada where the East and West coast 'liberals' (the Kerry Voters) joined Canada. The rest of America was renamed 'Jesusland'.
Seemed an interesting idea, if not especially serious, states like New York joining Canada rather than the other way round
