TO c/p my post in the other thread ("What would an independent North look like?")
It would be similar to today's US wrt working conditions, corporate governance, and welfare. I don't see any mainstream political voice advocating more stringent policies.
There could be better efforts when it comes to education.
The Independent New England will become the beacon of NAFTA, and will push the most for the FTAA.
Militarily, there would be a tight alliance with the rest of the US. The American domination on the world scene serves the interests of the whole US, and Independent New England will certainly not let this domination slide. A collective decision-making-process in foreign policies will be seen as a necessity, although said decisions will be very difficult to come by.
The State would be seriously more secular, and most religious issues that currently taint the American debate, won't exist there.
A new Political system would be in place. The Constitution would remain mostly intact, but some technicalities will be changed (like the electoral college). Also, the 2nd amendment will undergo a serious change in interpretation.

(as this is lsightly discussed in this thread)
How do the red states equate reducing government interference (small government) with receiving federal handouts from the blue states? If they were true republicans wouldn't reject any federal assistance?
