Oh believe me, they can. If they have the right to break the entity, why wouldn´t they think they have the right to also keep the weapong, the money and everything else? Even if the logic says they cannot keep aything from the entity they are leaving from, they would.

And I doubt you would find too may people willing to help you internationally.

All the countries aspiring to occupy the current US place as the first superpower would help (either openly or secretly) the rebels. Of course, they would say they do it in the name of freedom.

I hope someone would be stupid enough to give support to seccessionists, so after we finnished with them, the supporters would be next to feel our wrath.

The relevant comment was that the Red states would have to give that back to the North to be fair. You see, none of that stuff is actually in the North. So either way, the Red States get most of it.

quote: And as far as your comment about everyone in the army being from the South, you're completely wrong. While alot come from the south, to say they all do is simply falacious. The armed forces is pretty evenly split between all the regions of the United States, based on their respective populations. |
Not only are is that not true, and what I originally asserted is, but even those who are from blue states haven't lived there for quite some time. Most don't move back. And in any event for all intents and purposes all are loyal to their sworn government.
quote: How do you figure? Look at the GDP, most of the stuff is in the south, but who do you think paid for it all? The Mississippi Delta? No.... the North did. The South would have to give everything back proportionately, or else it would become an international pariah. |
A rebellious region secedes without being in physical possession of anything. They are not the internationally recognized government. The original government owns ALL government property. If anything YOU would be giving back the small portion of property you do have.
Like I said, you are not being kicked out, but leaving of your own accord. We wouldn't have to give you anything. Unless of course you want to fight for it and that would be a very bad day for you.
And again, the military swears an oath to the current government and president. You would be hard pressed to find any significant military asset that would be at your disposal.

quote: It's not inane. If you look at the votes by counties, the Democratic leaning parts of the South are overwhemlingly Black. I suppose you could consider it inane from the point of view that it was more of a duuuuuh comment. |
Yeah, and there's Democratic parts of the South that are overwhelmingly white too. (That's probably even more inane.)
But, in Arkansas, 94% of blacks voted for Kerry. A number like that is just plain shameful for Bush, but it's an unfortunate situation to me as a Democrat: either people are voting because of the color of their skin or there are far more economically disadvantaged blacks than those that are well-off (I can understand an economic gap.) In both situations America still has a long way to go with race issues.

It would be interesting if we could have a mass migration of liberals one way and conservatives another so that we could part ways easily. It would be interesting to see how the folks in Hollywood divided. Many rich, elitist actors would move to the Liberal States of America, while many of the working stiffs, the Wal-Mart shoppers, would move to the Old Glory States. Such is today's liberalism.
BTW, there is a great scene in the new moving about Howard Hughes. He visits Kate Hepburns parents at one point, an elitist mansion in the East, where they proudly announce that they are "socialists" and constantly pepper Hughes about whether he supports Roosevelt. When he tries to talk about planes, they interrupt him and say things like "We have had enough talk about planes." Gradually, Hughes has enough and says to Kate's mother that they are socialists because they "have money." Everyone is shocked. He then repeats it and walks out.
Todays liberals are f*cking elitists just like Hepburn's parents.
