Hasn't the US been telling the world to f off since the "shot heard round the world? I'm pretty sure our telling the British Crown to f off is how we became a country to begin with.

Personally I don't know how much longer the British are going to stick up for us either.

I don't blame them for wanting to go their own way if they choose to do so.

Good news is that Blair asked Bush to rebuild the European alliances today.

We did tell them to f off, right after the war was over. We were smart enough back then to know that the French were only in it for themselves and didn't really give a **** about our best interests. Why can't you figure that out today, with centuries more evidence to back it up?

I didn't vote for Bush. I'm a bad Republican. I'm also a rare, dying breed of Republican — a social moderate and fiscal conservative. I despise what the Republican Party has become — socially reactionary and fiscally irresponsible to the nth degree.

That said, I also despise some of the crap I hear coming out Europe and other parts of the world. Hey, folks, I did my part and voted for the men and women who I thought would be the best for my nation. Some won, but most lost. That's goddamn life. Don't use it as an excuse to condemn every "Red State" American or every Republican because a good number of Democrats crossed the party line as well, and voted for Bush or some other reactionary-type Republican.

Insofar as I'm concerned, America isn't the only nation growing more reactionary. The nations of Europe and Latin America are following the same path, albeit with a different label. The Middle East? Hell, they've been reactionary ever since Genghis Khan ruined their golden age. And if nations growing more reactive isn't enough, then you've got a fair number of amoral trans-national corporations edging onto the playing field and doing their bit of schtick for a buck, a euro, a pound, a yen and so on, regardless of the long-term cost to humanity or the world upon which we live.

In other words, folks, the reactionaries are taking over the planet, not just America. Some of us just can't face that reality yet. The moderates like me? We're history. We're a dying breed. This world is no longer our world. Enjoy it, reactionaries. You earned it. I'm just hoping enough moderates survive the insanity to eventually rebuild what's left after the reactionaries are done bringing down everything that was good.

Heh. Yeah, I'm just a bit jaded about humanity right now. Just a teensy, tiny bit. It doesn't show, does it?

Eh?

These are the same Latin American countries that are drifting left? The same European countries that are giving up on centuries of ethnic chauvinism to form the EU. The same countries that are in the process of supporting gay rights.

Only the US is really drifting right. You are profoundly out of step with the rest of the world.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

No one is expecting America to sit back and let the rest of us decide what you should do and how you should do it. But we do expect you to be fair and reasonable and to at least listen to what we have to say about it before you make decisions that affect us. It's not about letting other people decide your fate, it's about common courtesy, really.

As for the election, I'm not mad about the result. I'll admit that I was a little surprised and somewhat disappointed, but if Bush is the leader the American people want, then Bush is the leader they should have. Fair enough. It's called democracy, and although it might not always give us the best solutions right away, it's generally better than any of the alternatives.

Hey, at least this time Bush won because he actually got the most votes, so we do have some progress here.

Now, for Europe's reaction, our overall sentiment is that this is both bad for Europe and good for Europe. It's bad because if Bush continues his standing policy of only listening to those who agree with him, the gap between us and America will be likely to widen. At the same time it can be good for Europe because when we Europeans cooperate less with the US, we tend to cooperate more and better with each other. So, it can pull us all together in a way nothing else has for some time now.

As for the world outside of US and Europe, we are concerned…

Bush has already said he plans to remove Castro in his next term. We wonder who's next and how many more regime changes he is brewing on. A lot of people seem to think 4 more years with Bush means 4 more years of war and division.

I guess time will show…

Sorry, I don't socialise with any Europeans except for Poly. Most of Europe didn't lift a finger to help us so working together seems to be one-sided.

As for the British and Tony Blair, observers over here are saying that the re-election of Bush is very bad news for Tony Blair. Ever since WW II, Britain has traditionally been very close to the US, and Blair had a good time working with Clinton. However, his strong support for Bush has on occasion brought Tony Blair close to political suicide. Kerry might have relieved Blair, but now he has to deal with Bush for another term.

Read up on the oil for food scandal at the UN and then tell us about common courtesy. And yes, France, Russia, and maybe more were screwing with the sanctions they agreed to impose on Iraq. There's cooperation for ya...

Right. No one else should try to influence you in any way, but you and you alone should be the ones to decide the fate of other nations.

Well, that's the kind of arrogance that almost has us thinking it's okay for people to attack the US...
