He surveys the senate which at one time he knew very well and adored. In fact, his ancestors had played a pivotol role in the creation of this very chamber and this austere body. And to an empty chamber he speaks...

What negative vibes are these I sense? What has happened here?

And these papers with scribbles and arguments and diatribe on the desks of Senators Modo, Snoopy, McMeadows and others. And these comic-like creations on the desk of Senator Tollius.

Ah, the place of my brother Conius. I wonder how he is?

And what's this bottle doing on Senator Rasputin's seat? I guess the cleaning staff have been partying.

Poor Emperor Cubious - he must be having quite a time of it with this lot in here.

But you know, as I look about, I know that I am home. If the Senate exists - with its cast of characters - and despite its flaws and weaknessess - then Rome exists. And if Rome exists then I, Optimus Betamus, am Roman.

Senators!!! We are in dire need of fresh troops, I have recently surveyed the sacred save and my findings have alarmed me to the core.

There are not enough Legions !!! plenty of workers and slaves and many citizens on the build cues but we are woefully short of our most prestigious Legionaries !!!

Gentlemen these troops are the very backbone of our Empire, they can build roads to our furthest outposts for speed of travel, then why do we continue to spend so little on the military budget ?

Yes we must maintain a strong army for if we do not the might of Rome will be deminished and Rome may very well fall. I would hope the senate would not be so arrogant as to forget the time Rome itself was sacked by the Barbaric Gauls to the north (Real Roman History). We must never let something like that happen again.

As I return to the Senate chambers, once more a senator of Rome, I must fully support the stance of Trollius above. Indeed, the Roman Army does need you!! We are now at war with almost half the known world.

I regret (not a lot mind you. ) the diplomatic and military can of worms I have left my successor. It is a lot more complex situation that Cubious was good enough to pass to me.

It is my pleasure to speak before you all today. The Maximus family is making preparations to host games in the capitol in celebration of their up and coming term of office.

I would like to personally wish Emporer Skrobism all the best of Roman luck in his quest for fame and glory, all Hail the Emporer and all hail Rome !!!

Friends Romans and countrymen I believe our future strategy lies in completing our campaign in Spain and the islands, then I feel we should seek peace with the Carthaginians.

Their could be real trade benefits from such a move!! I believe there craftsmen make extraordinary ivory carvings

Which Senators wife would not truly love such luxeries to adorn their banqueting table ??

It is then I firmly believe we should attack the Celts to our North these smelly people pollute the winds coming from the Alps and it is time they kneeled before Rome !!!

Think of the slaves and the concubines so close at hand my comrades it has to be said the redheaded maidens of the Celts are far more striking than the Child murdering whores of carthage !!

I know we are a Senate of many minds here and there are many views on these matters, but i truly believe i speak with the wisdom of the Gods and that our future path will be close to my predictions.

Lastly my fellow Senators I call for the investiture of a triumhpull arch to be built on one of the entrances to our great city in honour to the wise rule of the former Emporer Optimus Betamus, his superb actions in the field against the sneak attack of the Scythians were truly remarkable. many Roman lives were saved due to his quick thinking and willingness to take tough choices.
