Hail to the Glory of the Empire founded by Romulus!
Hail to the Emperors, past, present and future!
Hail to the Exultance of the Senate and all the great men (and women?) who are Eminently qualified to forge the future.

Perhaps an impartial and experienced Praetor or two need be appointed. The Senate shall have no bounds on its power capped only by the Emperor Divine, but a justice to rap some knuckles here and there and advise the Senators on matters of law and coexistence with each other might be prudent - in my experience such a thing has been a boon to many civilised nations from which mighty Rome owes her roots, and could aid the Empire similarly.

I hope we shall find mediation in this dispute, so that Rome will again stride onwards with heart and mind united.

Ah, no more rules, just someone to help along the process of us all getting along WITHOUT those silly things at times when it seems difficult to do so

A couple of Praeter's may actually help not having too many rules.

We use them to "Judge" if we have some sort of a disagreement over the interpretation of the existing rules or the interpretation of a situational dispute not really covered by the rules.

Actually its not a bad idea we just need the right people being Praeter's.

People who are known for impartiality and fairness.

Impartiality is going to be a tough commodity around here, we would need someone like UnO..........

Strictly speaking, the Praetors did not try cases including senators, but common citizens and foreigners. Consuls, or the Princeps (president of the senate, loosely) would have had that power.

But I suppose the title doesn't matter.

I suggest, though, that an advisor to the Senate isn't really what we need - I'd prefer someone to advise the Emperor, to warn him/her when he/she is going astray of the Senate's suggestions ...

I think we also need a couple of advisors to advise the Praeters when they should in fact be advising the Emperor to accept the advice of the Senate, or indeed to advise the Emperor directly when they feel that the Praeters are incorrectly advising the Emperor or worse still, if the advisors feel the Praeters are not advising the Emperor at all but advising the Senate directly that the Emperor's actions are in fact ill-advised and not according to their own advice, which may indeed result in an irretrievable advisory conundrum

On the other hand.....oh bugger it, I'm off to the Three Weeds

Hey I did the Justice thing in the first game MrWIA can vouch for that, he appointed me. But, if we do this we need to know who will pick them. In my opinion, I would have the consuls do it. It would give them some more to do and as they stick around longer then the emporer they are a more stable group better able to do things like make appointments. But the senate of course should approve them.

I thought the vote was such that there WERE no Consuls needed.... I don't think a Praetor would be needed often, or even very regularly, just in the rare case that things were bad enough that they could not for some reason be sorted out on the Senate floor, or with some closed-doors private negotiations by the more politically active Senators.

I'd be happy to help with any of this, if needed. I may not be too often helping with the gameplay side of things ATM, but the interaction and organisation side I think I could contribute with - plus I possess the spellZ too, which could be of an advantage at times.

Mighty Senators of Rome

The concept of this game was to be fast, simple and pleasing for all to play. It was to be a place to encourage those who had never been involved in any style of democracy game to come forth and enjoy, get a hold of the concept of joint games, and then hopefully funnel them into the many other versions of Democracy Games that abound this Great Universe of Apolyton CIV III

In this it is the hope of many not to become tooo bogged down in some of the moe intrivate and unusually time issues that have plagued and sometimes even destroyed the other games that are around

So this game came with some simple rules - The Grand Book of Rome - Our Law

It came with The Roll of Senators - the sign up thread

And it came with The Great Roll of Emperors for those who wished to have a turn playing the actual saves each week.

Now originally there were to be THREE Consuls who were to assist the Emperor in his time at the HELM of Rome

Yet in the time when we started there were hardly enough people participating to fill all of these roles. So we voted and the positions of Consul was scrapped for the time being.

This quickly was shown to be a wrong decision

Then, as is stated in the Book of Law, Consuls, being the Former Emperor, and the next two in line for the Title of Emperor were to assist the Emperor

This has only partially worked

Thus emails, pms, messageboards and posts have been floated for a while with suggestions and solutions

I personally would like to see the position of Consul raised and strongly supported

For this reason I have started the following thread Consuls Of Rome - We Need You To Come Forth

maye they do need to be in position for several weeks as discussed in that thread

Senatrs of Rome, I ask that we look to fulfilling the positions of Consuls, not now building ourselves another teir of leadership.

Struth lads I believe we seek the sae role to be fulfilled with these two different names.

---------------------------------------------------

as stated in the Book of Law:

4.a. The Consuls are drawn from the The Great Roll of Emperors. Here we take the Emperor who has just Retired, and the next Two Heirs to the Throne.

It is the Consul’s job to present and moderate ideas for the Emperor to utilize during his term. This means through running threads, polls and getting discussions underway and followed through.

---------------------------------------------------

and also stated in the Book of Law:

Thank you one and all for your participation in the polls and threads to get us this far.

Here be the way we start this mighty game.

This is all open to negotiation and change in the mighty Senate of Rome.

---------------------------------------------------

Strength and Honour Gentlemen

Paddy
Cheif Administrator of the Senate

I still feel like throwing around a few ideas...

-Elect the consuls at regular intervals, maybe every 30 turns. If we have three of them, stagger the elections.

-Give the consuls general judicial powers in addition to current ones. You know, just to solve disputes between players, and keep the peace (Partys at Paddy's are known to get loud, occasionally waking his neighbors )

-Formalize the position of Pater Patriae. Make it an official, administrative position. This person would be elected when the old Pater Patriae either retires, or disappears (or is stabbed in the back by a couple of Senators )

I agree with Paddy....let's expand the role of Consul, keep them on as elected officials for several Emperors' turns, then vote on retaining or replacing them, one at a time. Say 20 turns to begin with, then re-vote.

Go here for your nominations, which so far for the first term include myself, Platypus Rex and MWIA.
