Yourself or Someone Like You is an exception. Due to legal issues and record label pressures, Rob Thomas wrote that entire album in a month, and recorded it over two days.

He didn't have much choice because...well, he was homeless.

Lucky for him it sold something like 25M copies.

I knew a guy who did. I was ultra jealous.

Gotta say, The Who Live at Leeds was my favourite album for years. I was overjoyed when they brought out the extended versions on CD.

I still have to get all the Led Zep albums on CD. I had them on vinyl, but I bought the two box sets (which have all the songs on them). In my irrational state I'd like to have the albums as well.

One day when I get a DVD player, I will get the West was Won DVD (the CD is brilliant).

Who Live at Leeds is essential. The extended jam on My Generation is one of the best things they ever did.

I love Who's Next, Quadrophenia and LAL. The rest are pretty good too.

My Dad once played in the opening act for the Who in the mid sixties. He said they were too wasted to play and just smashed up all their equipment.

Don't insult the New Kids by lumping them in with Matchbox 20. Step by Step is miles better than anything Rob Thomas and Co. have ever shat out...

There's a How the West Was Won DVD? I have the self-titled DVD from last year (which is completely awesome, BTW), but I can't find anything about a How the West Was Won DVD...

You like New Kids on the Block and Duran Duran.

That's still hilarious to me. You must've been the only boy in Nebraska to actually enjoy that music.

Whackjobs.

Have you even heard Duran Duran's new single?

It is unabashedly horrible. It sounds like an upbeat inspirational type song, but it's way too slow for that.

Who cares about their new single? The 80s and early 90s Duran Duran is their peak.

What? Can't you look beyond the 'new single'?

Oh, give me a break. I sincerely thought the only people who liked Duran Duran are the gay teenagers who -- for whatever reason -- love to live in the eighties. I know about four people like that, and they're the only ones I've met that liked Duran Duran before.

A good band doesn't have peaks, they're good or they suck.

Duran Duran sucks. They were hip and in for a while, but then their suckiness caught up to them.

Well, for a bright and shining moment, they were the kings of 80s New Wave. Though, personally, I prefered the Talking Heads. And even after the 80s they did some good stuff. "Electric Barberella" is one of my favorite songs .

Maybe I'm just more picky than you.

If a band gets lucky with an album or two, but everything after it sucks, the band sucks and got lucky.

If a band consistently produces albums that you consider good, the band is therefore good (see: The Beatles).

It's possible for a crap band to have the odd good song, but a good band has more good songs than bad. More consistency.

What does this have to do with good bands having peaks? Peaks can go for a decade you know? Just because the Rolling Stones last few albums have been no where near as good as when they were at their peak (which lasted a few decades), doesn't diminish their greatness.
