Where are you pulling this from?

If it sold 12M copies in the US alone, and went platinum 8 times in Australia alone, not to mention all the other countries in the world...you arrive at 15M?

Nice math skills.

Apparently you don't realize that platinum sales don't equal 1 million copies in other counties. In Canada, 100k is platinum, in Australia it's 70k.

Nice making an ass of yourself skills.

Suffering from ads?

I found a site confirming:

http://www.countrymusic.asn.au/salesawards.html

quote:
In Australia, GOLD represents wholesale sales of 35,000 units, PLATINUM 70,000

Of course Asher will deride my source.

Support Apolyton, buy Galactic Civilizations: Deluxe Edition

Here's a few others:

http://encyclopedia.thefreedictiona...Platinum+record

http://www.aria.com.au/pages/aria-c...reditations.htm

http://www.cria.ca/gold.htm

The last two are the Australian Record Industry Association and the Canadian Record Industy Association. I figure they're reasonably authoritative sources on the levels they set.

Yeah, I was looking for the official ARIA numbers.

So, 8x platinum in Australia is 8 * 70,000 = 560,000 units

That really shoots that worldwide number into the stratosphere .

I had no idea they were not consistent.

I stand corrected...though as of 2004, it was 15M sold in North America alone, according to the liner notes of their DVD.

So 25M was too much, and was assuming standard platinum was 1M.

So I was wrong, and you were right.

But still, 15 million copies of an album is spectacularly popular.

We may want to save this for posterity .

Yes, 15 million units is popular, but that is also the same amount of units sold by Vanilla Ice for his 'To the Extreme' album and a millon yes than N'Sync's 'No Strings Attached' .

I will give you props for taking it well . And with that, this thread can now die the death it deserved a while back .
