No, not to my knowledge. Usually when base swapping happens both parties have run out of them, though.

I wondered the same thing, but in the past in this game when someone has lost their bases on the same turn as they gained other bases any stockpile was kept. The only time it seems that they are lost is if you lose all of your bases without gaining any bases (in other words you are left baseless). The rules are not entirely clear on this point.

The only reference I can see is:

quote: Shields: It is possible for a player to send out a fleet and have it run into a shield or loses the battle, while his home bases are simultaneously captured. In this situation, the fleet remains independent, but will lose all stockpiled shields, spies, and BPs, and will lose 10% (rounded down) of it’s original numbers every turn due to lack of supply. Thus, such a fleet would be advised to capture or negotiate for a base ASAP.

Which implies to me that the only time you lose your stockpile is when you have no bases at the end of your turn.

Having said that, if Ljube should decide otherwise, that's fine with me, I am not sure which way benefits me more, and either way works for me

The rules are clear. Only if you run into a shield or lose a battle and lose all of your bases in the same turn as well you continue your existence as a baseless fleet without any stockpiled shields or spies.

Sparrow also has a sort of a tactical advantage: Doc's ships are heavy on the lasers while Sparrow's got the torpedoes.

Not so when your opponent can back off and lead with torps, though. Although Doc has enough fighters to maybe spread out and one-up Sparrow by leading with fighters... but then Sparrow can also... you get the point.

Lasers lose a lot of their advantage when they're expected. The exact OoB will indeed determine victory though.

It'll get a bit more interesting OOB-wise if we have a battle take place the next turn after both players have spent their BP on frigates. That's 100 tonnes worth of raw firepower that can't be predicted; although the existing tonnage is so humbling that overall it's not that big a portion.

I suspect someone is going to sit behind a shield and accumulate BP to try to force the other to tip his hand prematurely, though.

Round 24 – Showdown


Founder DrSpike sent the entire Dominion fleet to defeat rebel Sparrowhawk. The fleet was led by Weyoun and DrSpike remained behind with only a token Jem’Hadar force.

As soon as the Dominion fleet engaged the Trabe, Weyoun sent word to his founder.
The founder was pleased to learn that the entire Trabe fleet was waiting for the Dominion onslaught.
“We are going to destroy them now”, DrSpike confidently said to Weyoun.

Hence was his surprise greater when the scanners identified a single Trabe laser frigate near the Dominion bases. Chairman Sparrowhawk was in the frigate and he quickly eliminated all Jem’Hadar resistance and captured founder DrSpike along with all of his bases.

“Now DrSpike, call off your assault troops or I’ll order my troops to kill you”, Sparrowhawk threatened.
“The life of one founder is not important. Only the Dominion is important. I shall not order the Dominion troops to stand down. In fact, I have instructed them to fight to the death”, founder DrSpike replied.
“Let’s kill him then”, Sparrowhawk’s lieutenant was trigger happy. He aimed his blaster at DrSpike.
“No!” Sparrowhawk cried. “Are you mad? The Vorta and Jem’Hadar are mindless servants of this monster. And he has given them the order to fight to the death. If you kill him now, nobody in the universe could retract that order.”
“Precisely”, DrSpike said.
“We can only wait now. Wait and hope”, Sparrowhawk said.


In the meantime the great battle was going on.

Battle No. 1: DrSpike attacks Sparrowhawk
DrSpike: 66LT, 38FT, 28TT, 11TD, 1FB, 2TB, 105FF, OoB: TFL-LTF, close in, spread out, fight to the death
Sparowhawk: 29LT, 30FT, 59TT, 1LB, 1LC, 48LF, 60FF, OoB: TFL-TFL, back off, normal

News of the results of the first rounds of the battle came to DrSpike and Sparrowhawk.
“The Dominion is winning. Chairman Sparrowhawk, I suggest you surrender to me now. Personally you are beyond redemption as you must receive proper punishment for your acts of high treason against the Dominion. But your people will be spared if you surrender now”, DrSpike said.
“You still haven’t won the battle. We’ll see what the next round will bring.”
“The offer stays until the next round of the battle begins.”

The Dominion fleet is crippled losing all torpedo and nearly all carrier ships. Weyoun also perished aboard one of the carrier titans.

“I think the tide has turned”, Sparrowhawk said.
“Poor Weyoun. He was the last of his kind. He was the only solid I could trust”, DrSpike lamented.
“Order the Dominion troops back, or they will be destroyed utterly”, Sparrowhawk told DrSpike.
“All right. I see that I have been defeated. I accept to order the troops to stand down and I also accept to stand trial for my war crimes. The only condition is that I’m given the opportunity to send a single transmission to the gamma quadrant”, DrSpike replied.
“Granted”, Sparrowhawk said.

DrSpike ordered the Dominion forces to surrender to the Trabe fleet. He then sent a single transmission to the gamma quadrant.

A couple of years later DrSpike’s transmission reached the founders’ home planet in the gamma quadrant. It read: “The Dominion has been defeated by the delta quadrant solids. Send reinforcements immediately. Signed DrSpike.”
