You take the firepower totals on each side for that round, then look at what kinds of weapons they're using. If they're the same, no adjustment is required. If they're different, then one side will have their firepower doubled, as explained in the first post (Lasers beat fighters, fighters beat torpedoes, torpedoes beat lasers). There's also the issue of formations - you can Close In or Back Off to alter the effectiveness of lasers in the combat, and choose whether to bunch your ships together or spread them out - the former halves the firepower of enemy fighters but doubles that of torpedoes, while the latter does the opposite.

Round 22 - Exterminate all solids!
Founder DrSpike received the new leader of the Trabe Confederacy.
“Chairman Broka, the new leader of the Trabe Confederacy”, newly activated Weyoun clone announced Chairman Broka of the Trabe.
“I serve the founders in all things”, Chairman Broka was servile.
“One thing will suffice”, DrSpike replied. “Sparrowhawk, where is he?”
“Our soldiers keep searching for him, founder. He cannot hide forever.”
At that moment a Jem’Hadar guard appeared on the screen. He addressed Weyoun.
“Sir, we have captured traitor Sparrowhawk. What shall we do with him?”
“Terminate him immediately”, founder DrSpike ordered. “And destroy the city that was harbouring him!”
Chairman Broka was alarmed by this outburst of ruthlessness.
“Surely founder the civilians have done nothing wrong here. We cannot blame an entire city for the actions of the few…”
DrSpike’s sharp look prevented Broka from finishing his sentence.
Weyoun interjected.
“Are you confronting the founders? Questioning their decisions?”
Chairman Broka looked down and said.
“Off course not. I serve the founders.”
“Then it’s settled”, Weyoun said and turned to the First of the Jem’Hadar patrol: “Kill them all!”
But instead of killing Sparrowhawk and his friends, the Trabe soldiers in the patrol turned against the Jem’Hadar and killed them. Then they pledged loyalty to Sparrowhawk.
At the Dominion Headquarters Chairman Broka was trying to explain what has happened.
“They are just a bunch of rebels. I will find them all and execute them.”
“All Trabe are rebels and treacherous”, Weyoun replied.
“If you would allow me to go back to assemble a fleet, I would hunt down those criminals led by Sparrowhawk.”
“And if I let you join your fleet, you too would most likely betray me and turn your fleet against the Dominion”, DrSpike replied.
“Me? Against the Dominion? Never! I would never betray the Dominion!”
“And you are not going to have that chance”, DrSpike said. “Kill him!”
“Founder, what are we going to do with the Trabe rebellion?” Weyoun asked.
“Kill them! Kill them all! Exterminate them! Erase their race! Solids are not to be trusted! Get the fleet ready!”
The entire Dominion fleet arrived at Trabe planets where the Jem’Hadar engaged in the extermination of the Trabe population. But the soldiers were not there. Nor was Sparrowhawk.
Founder DrSpike learned later that the United Trabe led by Sparrowhawk captured all Dominion bases and destroyed all Vorta and Jem’Hadar cloning facilities.
