I've started a new game and I'm up to there again. 10 hours played already. I'm not sure its even nearly possible to get through in one day.

The game is a bit weaker because of the limitations of making a crappy console version. I mean, the interface is a bit clumsy, especially the inventory screens, and the modified D&D rules are extremly simplified (and there's no option to show all dice rolls, a feature that all the other Bioware D&D games have) Oh, and the locked camera is a bit of a pain. I mean, there is a solid zoom/pan/free function in the Aurora engine, why disable it? Oh, because consoles don't have a mouse wheel

The story is top, the voice action is top, and the characters are great. The worlds look wonderful too.

It looks promising for NWN2, in a way, as long as they don't simplify compared to NWN.

Oh, and LIGHTSABERS

yeah I don't like the oversimplifications. But I try not to get my panties in a bunch about consoles. No sense getting aggrivated about it. I just take games as they are.

As I said before, I just wish therer were more character options. And more spells and feats as well.

I wish there was a "drag and drop" inventory, and that I could r-click on objects to read a description, instead of lots of scrolling lists

Damn console limitations DO NOT need to be retained on the PC version

the inventory system isn't too bad. It's only when I accumulate too many items that it becomes a pain. But I'm getting accustomed to quickly scrolling through my inventory to find those mandalorian data pads . That's where it really becomes annoying. You pick up a data pad, but have to find it and click on it to see what it says.

I actually find the inventory system worse in KotOR II.

I went ahead and reinstalled it. It was only when Baldur's Gate 2 that I had the urge to play KOTOR. Go figure. The games really aren't that similar, but I guess they both share that Bioware "style". But I did finish the main campaign of Baldur's Gate with my druid avenger. That was a fun kit. I used to hate druids.

But onto KOTOR. This game I'm vowing not to use a light saber. Far too oftem my characters end up the same. Even when I chose the class (can't think of the name- not the sentinal but the other one) that has the least amount of melee ability, I still ended up meleeing. This character I'm going to concentrate on ranged blaster combat. Probably heavy blasters.

In fact, I might vow not to use light saber by any of the character (jolee, and those other 2).

Actually I might forgo using a weapon completely and just use force powers.

Full PM-box? Change here!

Jolee kicks ass with force powers, and you can be a consular. Take the Mandolorian as a tank/blaster and you're set.

started a new game of the first kotor last night.

I play on the hard difficulty level of course. Normal is just not challenge at all.

I was dual weilding hand blasters or whatever they are called. I must say blasters suck ass . I'm really gimping myself. And consequently, I actually found a few battles to be challening at the highest difficulty setting. I died more than once.

I've heard of people doing mods. I just don't see why blasters are so weak compared to melee weapons. Zaalbaar easily kills more people than I do. I used an upgrade Carth's pistol and a heavy blaster. energy weapons should do more damage, plain and simple.

I have a str of 10, dexterity of 16 (at the start, I've been bumping this), const 10, int 14, wisdom 16, char 10. I started as a rogue or whatever. And then I moved onto consular. I allowed myself 7 levels of rogue. I usually only allow a few levels (enough to kill bendak starkiller), but I figured I'd gimp myself by not allowing as many jedi levels.

bendak starkiller actually went down pretty easy in this game. I took all my stims, dodged his 3 grenades, and then blasted him with 5 plasma grenades.

but I like this weak character. I actually have to plan my battles a little. I used to never assign actions to my teammates. But I have to in order to survive sometimes. I have tried using mines, but far too often the enemy won't follow you. And stealth won't allow me to get close enough to do much. I don't like the way stealth works in this game because it forces me into solo mode. I then have to activate my party, cancel solo mode and then bring them into the battle. I'm usually dead by this point

Blasters are quite weak in this engine generally. The (in relative terms) stronger archer builds rely on elements missing from the simplified engine in KotOR.

I guess they thought that most people would not pass up the chance to whack people with light sabres.

because of this, I'm not sure how to develop my character now he's a jedi. I don't want to really gimp him so I can't win the game. But that probably isn't possible. The final battle can be won with thermal detonators. In fact, that's the method I usually use (unless I have a jedi guardian- then I just go up and whack him with light sabers). I'm already finding I have to use grenades alot, because my blaster just don't cut it.

I used an adhesive grenade, and frag grenades against that one melee guy in the arena on Taris (the old guy you fight before twitch). Bendak is easier because he doesn't engage in melee unless you get close to him. So I didn't need the adhesive (which was good because I didn't have anymore ). I just used plasma grenades. This is good though, because far too often in this game, I hardly ever use any grenades at all. Same with mines. So it's good to use things I haven't used before.

Of course, on the subjects of blasters sucking... the way everyone has shields and/or deflects the bolts back with lightsabers makes them doubly sucky.

Having said that, making one character into an antidroid specialist with twin ion pistols of some kind seems to make some fights go easier.

Now... blaster RIFLES on the other hand. THEY suck. Half the fire-rate of twin pistols for on average 1-2 points more damage. Oh, and there are LOADS of pistols though the game.

Yeah, it seems to mean that blasters and rifles should be MUCH better than Vibroswords. There is a reason that armies don't fight with swords anymore and still use guns! Lightsabers can destroy bullets and redirect blaster rifle, but regular swords can't!

yep, energy weapons should do much more damage. This should be balanced by the use of energy shields of course (you would have to boost their effectiveness as well). It can't be that hard to teach the ai to use them (I believe I have seen the ai use energy shields).

I could easily do it. KOTOR is not that difficult a game.

In fact, with my jedi guardian, I hardly EVER used force powers. The only one's I used were defensive ones or buffs. Such as master speed, force immunity, master valor etc. I rarely used them offensively.
