Something like that. Traffic + lots of stops for food and bathroom breaks. And waiting ages for people that took too long coming back.

Oh yeah, those times seem to be quite.. guide like.. to give you a hint of the minimum time, maybe. I have taken a Greyhound once in my life and it truly sucked majorly.

The breaks took forever, and once the driver disappeared, he went eating FOREVER. Then we had to go through a military base, and that took FOREVER. etc etc etc... and they go to all those small stops, because people might come aboard..

if comfort and time is of ANY value... don't take that one.

I have taken 6 trips now of more than 10 hours on the greyhound.

It's a good way to get to where you are going if you have the time to spare.

Amtrack is a pain to get from Vancouver to Seattle, but easy from Seattle to Texas

Yeah.. when you hitchhike, you can have experiences you couldn't get any other way:

Because it goes without saying that we can't turn him loose. He'd report us at once to some kind of outback Nazi law enforcement agency, and they'll run us down like dogs...

Jesus! Did I say that?

If it's cheaper and you can stand it, then go with the bus. If it was me, I might consider a bus from Vancouver to Seattle and then take the train the rest of the way.

For my aforementioned trips from DC to NYC, iirc, the train cost $10 more and took 1/3rd the time.

RIght and consider the fact that train is more .. accurate than the bus.. the bus can basically have problems or what ever and it takes more and more time. And the more time you are on the road, it's time wasted and maybe you eat in between or buy food or sometihng, that costs 'extra' so sometimes making it faster is worth it.

And bus helps you better than train in what way? You see the same stuff but slower?

The bus has a schedule as well. It's not like you make lots of stops in good spots or anything like that. It just takes longer and is more uncomfortable than train.

IF you want to see US in a way where you can kind of check out what's in between the points, then one must take a car and drive.

Granted, but in this case the price points are not very good for doing that, bus and then train. I can get a one way ticket to SA from Vancouver for about 110 USD and it would cost me 50 CDN just to go from Vancouver to Seattle.

Kind of, but more to get a feel of a trip, rather than having to rush.

It's hard to put forth the idea.

Then again, I'm not the best person to talk about this since I don't like travelling in the sense of being in transportation, unless it's a nice one like a boat or something. So.. a bus might be what you are looking for after all.

You see more via a bus than a train since most of the time tracks are kind of isolated from everything else while bus do go thru communities.

that depends if you want to see man made objects or nature built.

I'd rather take a train that has different views from what you see from the road. You'd be more likely to go through unspoiled territory (aside from the railroad service roads)

Ok, I have the ticket, and the only decent stopover is at the LA greyhound bus depot.

I'll be there for 3 hours on the 25th of May, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and would be willing to meet any of the LA polytubbies inclined to come out

Have you been to LA, Ben?

It's a big city. Huge. And a terror to get around.

It's gonna be rough getting people excited about driving from, say, Anaheim to downtown LA (30 minutes each way if the traffic is with you) so they can hang around a bus stop for 3 hours.

Also, you need an address for the bus stop. There are at least 15 Los Angeles area stops. The main terminal is downtown at

1716 E 7TH ST
Los Angeles, CA 90021

according to Greyhound. Is that the one you meant?
