I must apologise to Moonbars in advance for this, but I had a conversation with McMeadows of the Euphoricans tonight.
If nothing else, this explains why Moonbars was appointed Foreign Minister and not me
Moonbars.....please pick up the pieces and go and educate this numbat about the birds and the bees
Aqua says:
why would I be annoyed?
McMeadows says:
archer is back on iron
McMeadows says:
Kurt Cobain
Aqua says:
oh yeh, I know that
Aqua says:
but he'll leave - he has no right to be there and you know that
Aqua says:
you're just looking for an excuse to escalate tensions
McMeadows says:
the interpretation of our deal had gotten me quite mad
Aqua says:
sorry, I'm not as diplomatic as Moonbars - that's why he's foreign Minister!
Aqua says:
oh crap, don't give me that mate. How can you possibly believe you can tell our guy to go away when he's entirely outside your borders?
McMeadows says:
We agreed on leaving and had every intention to do
Aqua says:
meanwhile, you have another warrior next to our town Sweet Desolation
Aqua says:
but hey, you're INSIDE our borders
Aqua says:
so explain that one away!
McMeadows says:
that archer was there initially before the land was claimed
Aqua says:
what has that got to do with anything?
McMeadows says:
and off course I know you were to claim it
Aqua says:
so if we put 10 archers around your land, you can't expand? is that the rule?
Aqua says:
you guys are being petty and you know it
Aqua says:
you also know damn well we could have razed your undefended town and we chose not to
Aqua says:
so stop being arrogant and get out of our land!
McMeadows says:
brb
McMeadows says:
I'm well aware of your opportunity to raze our city
McMeadows says:
and it has been a big annoyance to have your warrior mover around our borders
McMeadows says:
that's why the agreement was to leave the iron if the warrior would move back home the way it came
McMeadows says:
Now Moon gave a certain interpretation to that, in which waay the warrior is still moving around
Aqua says:
did you read any of my posts? WE ARE OUTSIDE YOUR BORDERS!!!!
Aqua says:
You have a Warrior just outside our borders and we didn't ask him to leave
Aqua says:
so what's the big deal?
McMeadows says:
Don't want you there, mapping our surroundings, triggering barbs etc
Aqua says:
ah, well we don't want you there either!
Aqua says:
but we're smart enough to know that we have no right to tell you to go
McMeadows says:
so you move we move,.. that was agreed upon
Aqua says:
sorry mate, but Civ3 convention doesn't give you any right to tell us to "stay at least 3 tiles from our borders at all times cos we don't want you to map our territory"
Aqua says:
no, you misinterpreted Moonbars' statement
Aqua says:
ok...let me try another tack.....your Warrior is mapping our borders, correct?
McMeadows says:
Why would I make an agreement if it wouldn't yield us anything? Wasn't it obvious that we wanted something in return
Aqua says:
Sorry...you wanted something in return for moving out of our territory?
McMeadows says:
actually, that warrior is just being there to annoy you back..
Aqua says:
that's funny, cos we're not annoyed. So why should you be?
McMeadows says:
hmmm, territory wasn't yours when warrior camped out there in the first place
McMeadows says:
BTW, I'm acting speaking only for myself. There's been no time for the team to discuss this issue and I had to decide on the move to keep the game going. Most probably the team will be more mellow
Aqua says:
mate...bottom line is...we have every right to map your borders so we can see your future towns. You trying to tell us otherwise is simply an admission that you didn't have 3 Warriors in place to block us from doing it. Don't go crying over it....we've already mapped your borders now and we're heading home. So, where do you want to take this now?
McMeadows says:
rights... what rights are there?
There're only things you can agree upon and I made a deal with Moon on having you move back the way you came. In my opinion he screwed me over. That's the only reason Kurt is back on the hill
McMeadows says:
a deal = a deal
and that's sacred
Aqua says:
You're talking crap and you know it. Perhaps I'd better let the European Moonbars tallk to you, cos we Australians don't talk in riddles
McMeadows says:
The Moon riddles are probably just what got me that much irritated
Aqua says:
no riddles, you just expected something that was 80% in your favour, which was just dumb
Aqua says:
ok, so let's drop all the crap mate......respond to this, and this only:
McMeadows says:
instead you want me to take a deal -100% in my favour?
Aqua says:
Your archer is in our territory. Our Warrior is outside yours. Is it reasonable for you to order our Warrior in a certain direction under such circumstances when we've clearly stated he will not enter your territory?
McMeadows says:
our archer was sitting there allready before the iron was within your territory borders. Off course I understand you want to claim it and of course our archer was to leave.
Aqua says:
So that's irrelevant then
McMeadows says:
However, I also stated that we didn't want to have your warrior explore any further in a corner of the world where there're no new civs to meet, nor land to explore for settling for DR
McMeadows says:
And with our archer on the hill, we had mutual interests in the other one leaving
Aqua says:
lol....obviously you don't play much Civ then
McMeadows says:
enough to know what
Persia+iron yields
Aqua says:
ok, well I've said all I need to say
Aqua says:
Fact 1: You have no right to order us out of neutral territory
Aqua says:
Fact 2: Your Warrior is doing the same to us, and at no stage have you suggested you will move him
Aqua says:
Fact 3: Your Archer is INSIDE our territory
Aqua says:
the facts speak for themselves
Aqua says:
Move the Archer, or he will be removed
McMeadows says:
that territory is just as much to be ours as the iron was to be when our archer got there
McMeadows says:
If you'd asked us to move the warrior, I'd have done it...
Aqua says:
Ah, a politican. You didn't respond to the facts, but invented some of your own.
McMeadows says:
I'm a scientist, not a politician
Aqua says:
Ok, then respond to my facts instead of insisting on continuing to live in your fantasy world
McMeadows says:
Like c3c is a real world issue?
McMeadows says:
The only thing that matters to me is that when I agree to something I stick to it
Aqua says:
Ah forget it, I'm wasting my time trying to get you to see resaon. We have the moral high ground and you know it, so you won't budge
McMeadows says:
bending or breaking an agreement is not moral to me
Aqua says:
If I agree to kill myself then you will hold me to it simply because it was an agreement?
McMeadows says:
I'd like to remind you again that Euphorica hasn't yet decided on the issue, I'm speaking for myself...
McMeadows says:
You won't make such an agreement with me as I won't accept it...
Aqua says:
then go and tell your team mates your conversation with me
Aqua says:
It won't change anything.
Aqua says:
Move your Archer or you will lose him
Aqua says:
Our Warrior is outside your territory
Aqua says:
Don't presume to tell him where to go!
McMeadows says:
just as much as you think you are to tell where our archer is going
Aqua says:
no, you can send your Archer where you like, as long as it is outside our territory
Aqua says:
so, would you rather our Warrior was inside or outside your territry?
McMeadows says:
If you had moved back, I had proposed to move through our lands to move home more quickly...
Aqua says:
Again, you didn't answer my question
Aqua says:
Any lawyer worth his salt would rip you to shreds, my friend!
McMeadows says:
the whole issue is not about "having the right to be here or there" it's about an agreement that has been broken in my point of view. That is enough to make me unreasonably angry.
Aqua says:
Then be angry, for you are angry without reasonable cause
Aqua says:
Be that as it may, what do you propose to do from here?
McMeadows says:
settle my anger and oney the wishes of my team. If I was playing alone, my sole mission would have been to tear DR down to the last bit, even if it had meant to go down as well....
McMeadows says:
oney = obey
Aqua says:
I see....even though we have previously shown you mercy.
Aqua says:
Thank you. We now understand the psyche of your team
McMeadows says:
3rd time to remind you I'm speaking for myself
Aqua says:
And how many active members are in your team?
McMeadows says:
3 most active.. And as this issue for me is beyond reason, I will not discuss the issue, but only execute the wishes of the others
Rhothaerill and Snoopy
On the weekend, Andydog is to catch up and become more active as well....
Aqua says:
And Wittlich?
McMeadows says:
Platypus Rex drops in a line regularly and Wittlich occasionally. He will only speak up if somethings out of line as he sees it
Aqua says:
I see
Aqua says:
still, a good core
Aqua says:
We are a humble team in comparison
McMeadows says:
Snoopy and me take the lead... I play the turns and propose the next moves which are published to be discussed
Aqua says:
So I take it you will propose to wipe us out
McMeadows says:
Snoopy takes care of most FA (foreign affairs). To cover 24/7 we fill in for eachother
McMeadows says:
I won't propose wiping you out... I think it's better to have the others decide what's best. My opinion is blurred by my anger
Aqua says:
You're seriously angry?
Aqua says:
I'm amused
McMeadows says:
yes I am
McMeadows says:
I can separate the issue from the person however.
McMeadows says:
allthough I will remember the way Moon and you act when making deals
McMeadows says:
I'm not mad with you or Moon, that's what I mean
Aqua says:
so you're mad with.....?
McMeadows says:
with being framed
Aqua says:
lololololol
Aqua says:
you backed yourself into a corner, so what do you expect?
McMeadows says:
hmmm, see it this way.
We play a rough game of rugby and you elbowed me. I get mad, after the game we drink a beer together
Aqua says:
Ah, us Australians can relate to that

[16:49] snoopy369: Hey ... just wanted to tell you guys that the archer will move this turn
[16:50] Moonbars: :-/
[16:50] snoopy369: I had wanted to move it last turn when you founded the city, but McM wanted you to fulfill your bargain first.
[16:50] Moonbars: we have furfilled our bargain
[16:50] Moonbars: Mcmeadows just can't read
[16:50] snoopy369: The warrior is heading back south?
[16:51] Moonbars: he is going home
[16:51] Moonbars: McMeadows has mis-read the agreement, and said a lot of unwise things
[16:51] Moonbars: it is however good to hear that the archer will be withdrawn
[16:52] snoopy369: Well, the agreement i read is "the warrior is moving back home"
[16:52] Moonbars: allow to to cut and paste..
[16:52] snoopy369: oh i read the MSN conversation
[16:52] Moonbars: good
[16:52] snoopy369: and those are your words
[16:52] snoopy369: I think we are moving our warrior homewards to be a policeman actually - is that ok with you?
[16:52] snoopy369: these specifically
[16:53] snoopy369: the concern McM has is that moving east is not homewards
[16:53] snoopy369: you are south of us, not east
[16:53] snoopy369: we're fairly sure about that :P
[16:53] Moonbars: neither are we west of you
[16:53] snoopy369: ah yessir
[16:53] snoopy369: but the archer starts out on the west side
[16:53] Moonbars: the most direct route home, without crossing your borders
[16:53] snoopy369: warrior*
[16:53] snoopy369: doesn't he?
[16:53] Moonbars: that's east
[16:54] Moonbars: I would have to reload the saves to be sure, but it is my memory that East was the best way home
[16:54] snoopy369: ohh now on the east
[16:54] snoopy369: because of the new settled city
[16:54] Moonbars: indeed
[16:54] snoopy369: it's still about the same distance
[16:54] Moonbars: mcMeadows offered to let us cross your territory, but I had already emailed the save by then
[16:55] snoopy369: mcm made it pretty clear that east was not acceptable at the time
[16:56] snoopy369: and at that time (2630 bc I believe?) they were the same distance, give or take 1 square
[16:56] snoopy369: Moving back, without tresspassing, nor further exploration is ok
[16:56] snoopy369: were his words
[16:56] Moonbars: but not the words of the agreement
[16:56] snoopy369: your agreement was to move home
[16:57] snoopy369: however you did not specifically disagree with his wording
[16:57] snoopy369: thus, i would consider it agreed to
[16:57] snoopy369: perhaps you were tricking him into thinking it agreed to when it was not ...
[16:57] Moonbars: I never agreed the "no further exploration" bit. It is so hypocritical, when ur team has a warrior scouting out borders and an archer, and offensive military unit, sitting on a Stat resource INSIDE our territory
[16:57] snoopy369: but that would be implite.
[16:57] snoopy369: impolite*
[16:57] snoopy369: It was not inside your territory at the time
[16:57] snoopy369: and as I said, i agree with moving it
[16:57] Moonbars: well good
[16:57] snoopy369: you should have objected to our warrior, if it bothers yo
[16:57] snoopy369: you*
[16:58] Moonbars: it doesn't
[16:58] snoopy369: we are actually trying to find another civ in that area
[16:58] snoopy369: Then please don't bring it up again.
[16:58] Moonbars: any nation has a right to move it's troops in neutral territory
[16:58] snoopy369: ahh
[16:58] snoopy369: rights ... and politics ... two different things
[16:58] Moonbars: indeed.
[16:58] snoopy369: You are correct, that we have the right to move our archer and warrior wherever, in neutral territory
[16:58] snoopy369: however
[16:58] snoopy369: if we have 10 archers sitting on your borders
[16:59] snoopy369: but neutral still
[16:59] snoopy369: you would probably object
[16:59] Moonbars: no, we'd attack them and remove the threat
[16:59] snoopy369: same thing
[16:59] snoopy369: it is simply a continuation of that idea
[16:59] Moonbars: not quite
[16:59] snoopy369: you're declaring war ... we're just asking before we declare
[16:59] snoopy369: it is not so different.
[16:59] snoopy369: (except we are more polite)
[17:00] Moonbars: if u have a scout near us, fine. if you have 2 or 3, that's OK.. if u had 10 archers that would be war.
[17:00] snoopy369: it's a number, is what i'm saying
[17:00] snoopy369: your number is 4 it seems
[17:00] snoopy369: ours, is 1.
[17:00] snoopy369: Anyway, let me put it to you this wak.
[17:00] snoopy369: way*
[17:01] snoopy369: Kurt Cobain will not move from one square outside the iron, until you have moved your warrior away from our territory, and stopped scouting it.
[17:01] snoopy369: However, if you move west and south, we will agree to move him sooner.
[17:01] snoopy369: It is up to you.
[17:01] Moonbars: well, our warrior is moving home, and will not enter your terriroty. If you wish to start a war by attacking him, this is your right and privilage.
[17:02] Moonbars: the most direct route is east and then south.
[17:02] snoopy369: What I said, is said.
[17:02] Moonbars: this is the route he will take
[17:02] snoopy369: Then Kurt will sit next to the iron, indefinitely.
[17:02] snoopy369: One square outside your territory.
[17:02] Moonbars: that is also your right and privilage.
[17:03] snoopy369: So long as this is our understanding.
[17:03] Moonbars: and we would not seek to take it from you
[17:03] snoopy369: Have a good day, then
[17:03] Moonbars:
[17:03] Moonbars: and you.

After a less than overwhelming respons to this crisis (thanks Masuro, the only one who has responded so far), I have since had an MSN conversation with McMeadows.
McMeadows was understandably confident and non-committal, thinking they have got us all in a tither. His standard line was "we were led to believe recently that it is perfectly fine for units to occupy any neutral territory of their choosing". My response that an exploring Warrior was rather different to 4 Archers and a Spear camped next door to our territory, met with an annoyingly smug response, so I ended the conversation by warning him that if the units entered our territory they will be destroyed without a second thought.
Unfortunately to ensure our ability to do this, I have switched a Settler build to a Horseman. We also have another Settler that was intended for a new town southwest or northwest, but I have had to move him eastwards due to the Euphorican presence.
Our Army is currently weak compared to theirs, which if nothing else means that by having 6 units near our territory means they have few if any MP for happiness purposes. I don't expect we will remain weak compared to them for much longer. In any case, we have Horsemen compared to their Archers, which are calculated by the game engine as having equal strength, when Horsemen are clearly far superior.
