Ford lies about fuel economy. Support Apolyton buy from Amazon

So I drive a 1999 Mercury Cougar. slighty tricked w/tint and neco stripe. I hate this thing mechanically, its a ford. But atm Its all I got. The sunroof broke twice and ive gone through about 8,000 alternators and fuel pumps.

The only upside is the compliments I get and the fact its fun to drive.

One thing pisses me off the most tho.
My gas mileage is like 9 mpg. Wtf? Ive taken it to mechanic after mechanic theyve all said its normal for owners to average only 5-15 mpg in this car. Ford just made up the fuel economy.

I still have the msrp sticker where it says 25 is average.

What the hell.

Can I sue or something. I might aswell be driving an H2

What's super ironic is that after Ford took over Jaguar, it went from one of the world's most unrelibable brands, to one THE most reliable brands.

Go figure. Ford of all companies.

Do you think Hemi is just a bunch of hype?

They seem to have done good with the whole marketing of it.

Help yourself to an AD-FREE life

sounds like a bunch of hype to me. But perhaps if you are pulling a trailer, you might need something with more power.

The reason why I get decent gas mileage is because I have the smaller V8 engine. I don't need the extra power. I just need enough power to do the off road activities I enjoy (ie not getting stuck).

hmm, I admit I'm not up on new vehicles. Not having bought one in 10 years. So I looked this up.

It says it can shut down 4 cylinders when not in use . That's pretty cool.

In Europe you know how much to fill up to get a set distance where in America you know how far you'll get on a set volume?

Or are the implications more astounding than that?

Hmmmm... just got off the phone with my mechanic, and he thinks the mechanics you are talking to are all full of it... 15 mpg, sure... 10 or less, and you have a mechanical problem that desperately needs to be fixed.

quote:

Ford just made up the fuel economy.

You obviously have no clue to level of testing involved, and the support documention required by the government

quote:

I still have the msrp sticker where it says 25 is average.

Everybody knows that the numbers are for comparison only, and don't really reflect reality... it's almost impossible to hit their numbers even under optimum conditions...

However, just because you can't get those numbers in real life, doesn't mean that Ford, or any of the other car companies are lying... They are all just using the system/tests that the government mandates.

quote:

What the hell.

Maybe you should take your car to a real mechanic.
Getting just 5 MPG from you car means something is REALLY wrong

Big difference between the standard 4.8L V8 and the 5.7 L Hemi with little difference in the fuel economy.

Daddy Og just got hisself one. WOOOHOOO!

Gets about 16 mpg around town.

Got spare money?

I've had my Ford Probe GT for 10 years now and it has the same engine and trany as the cougar and I normally get around 20-22 mpg. ISomething tells me you are exagerating (it could be that you claimed to have gone through 8000 alternators and other such claims).

BTW in 10 years my car has broken down exactly once and it was because the car had 94k miles on it and I was supposed to replace the fan belt at 75k miles. I was a poor college student and just kept pushing my luck. The car has preformed flawlessly.

Not surprisingly people in the know disagree with you. They make their living monitoring and comparing this stuff and Ward's Auto World (a trade publication for the Auto Industry) says some Ford engine's are amoung the best you can buy.
