The year is 2750BC. We are about to found our first new town since the original 3 Settlers (Adam, Eve and.....errr.....Brian) spread their wings and claimed their ground, so to speak
Coming close on the heels of founding this town should be the connection of our Iron source. We already have a Barracks, and have nearly produced our second Granary, allowing us to grow at a reasonable pace.
The pace of technical research, with 6 teams in the game, all probably having met each other by now, will be quick. We must therefore use the significant power advantage our UU provides us before he is relegated to mediocrity; effectively once Feudalism becomes commonplace. This gives us but a small window of opportunity.
Things to consider:
- How shall we go about building our military - eg, IS and Aquarius to be used solely for Settler and Worker production, with Barracks and military units being pumped out of all other cities with little or no other infrastructure?
- Who should be our first target - Euphoricans (weaker) or Lost Boys (closer)?
- Do we weaken our target then move onto the second target, or take the first target out of the game altogether?
- Do we enter into a security alliance with another tribe, and if so, who?
- Are we resigned to conducting a war under Despotism, or do we wish to delay the war in order to change to another Government? If the latter, what is the recommended strategy?
Let's start thinking lads. We have a world to conquer!!

A couple of random thoughts on the matter:
1. Infrastructure can wait. If we don't go after somebody else, we'll find ourselves a target before the infrastructure has a chance to kick in.
2. The more I think about it, the more I want to eliminate the threat of Riders coming south in the future. IF we can forge a fairly strong alliance with Euphorica, I'm in favor of taking on the Lost Boys. Otherwise, we go north, IMO. The more I think about it, the more I really hope we decide to go north.
3. Eliminate them. Leaving a weakened civ on our borders is begging for trouble down the road. Plus, territory is at a premium in this game, and getting rid of a civ completely will let us get a jump on expansion.
4. See above. If we wind up going after Euphorica, we should probably investigate an alliance with the Lost Boys, just to avoid a sneak attack while our immortals are TCOB in the north.
5. War under despotism. First, I don't like the idea of holding off any longer than necessary, for the reason you mentioned (fast tech pace). Second, the no WW will help. Third, we can revolt during the winding down phase of the war, and come out of anarchy with a couple more cities under our belts (hopefully).

To address Masuro's post, the archer still sitting there tells me one of three things:
1. They, deathly afraid of an Immortal rush, plan on doing everything in their power to deny us that iron, at least until it's too late. If this is the case, the option on our end is clear, and we need to get an archer of our own over there soon, or at the very least a couple more warriors. While some delay might be nice, in order to build a few more warriors for upgrade, in general, the longer Kurt Cobain (no-talent waste of a recording contract monkey that he was ) stays there, the smaller our window gets.
2. They're trying to see how far we can be pushed and generally screw with us. If this is the case, they'll eventually relent, and have wasted potential exploration/barb-killing turns and created tension between our teams for very little gain, if any. These guys are better players than that, leading me back to #1.
3. They made an innocent mistake, or are waiting for our warrior move. This could indicate they don't fully trust us (even after our noble restraint at their undefended city!), and therefore deserve to die, or that they have less than perfect mental faculties, and therefore deserve to die.
Now, they're also better players than to put all their faith in a single archer and our goodwill, which makes me think they're building up what they think will be a surprise if we march north. Since they're industrious, too, I'm going to assume they have, or will have very shortly, the iron at Metallica hooked up, and that can only mean the "surprise" is likely sword-based. It's entirely possible that the surprise is an archer rush to hit Antioch, but I'm leaning toward a sword stack, even if only enough to take out the one town. Either way, I think their aim is to deny us the iron right up until the moment they're about to come into view, then try to take Antioch out before we can get it hooked up. All of a sudden, I'm seeing Euphorica as an imminent threat, and the Lost Boys as only a target of luxury.
I see Moonbars has broached the subject already . Keeping the firm, but genial tone Moonbars established seems to me the best course. Since our spearman from Sweet Desolation can get to Antioch in time at the first sighting of any Euphorican force, I don't think we need to move him any further than 3 of IS, at least until the next spear is 1 turn away or Warrior Rex has left our borders. Fortifying him anywhere between SD and IS would give us the most flexibility.

Time to bring this thread back to life.
I have received sufficient response to my "call to arms" to begin a serious military buildup, with the objective of annihilating the pompous and arrogant Euphoricans. This in turn requires us to start scheming and devising a careful military strategy.
My initial suggestions for the buildup are:- Build at least one more Barracks - probably in Inner Sanctum
- Continue building Horsemen in at least 3, perhaps 4 towns
- Send the first available Worker to the connect the Iron in Antioch, protected by at least 2 units, one of whom must be a Spear
- Drop back our research rate and start piling cash for Warrior upgrades
- Commence building Immortals
I am also toying with the idea of contacting another team to forge an alliance.- Lost Boys - closest civ, so enlisting their support reduces the risk of attack from our rear. However, they are probably the weakest team. Still, 1889 is a solid diplomat and we may benefit from a non-aggression treaty.
- Babylon - Have recently expressed friendship and a willingness to trade. We owe them a tech (they gave us Polytheism in return for a future tech of ours), so they would probably prefer to be our ally than our enemy
- BOH - militarily strong, already at war with Angh-Morpork, who seem to be in trouble. Probably a wise move.
- Angh-Morpork - Have agreed to provide us with Map Making if we "spy" on BOH. Militarily, probably not much use to us and they may well be eliminated soon.

Good idea, though we don't currently have any available units to send there. I'll send a Warrior to the next hill norrth of Antioch though, if the Euphoricans don't camp there. The last thing we need is unannounced reinforcements marching over the hill!
Notice the Settler - I was intending to send him due north next turn to settle. This will extend our field of vision. Comments on the proposed placement?
Perhaps we should send our next Spear up there to watch, or build a couple of quick Warriors.

Announcement: Euphorica has attacked!
They saw the opportunity of getting onto the hill, so they attacked the lone Horseman there, losing an Archer in the process.
I have countered thus:
Battle Report:
4/4 Horse kills 4/4 Spear, 1/4
4/4 Horse kills 4/4 Archer, 2/4
3/3 Horse kills 4/5 Archer, 3/4
3/3 Horse retreats against 3/3 Archer, 2/3
3/3 Horse kills 2/3 Archer, 3/4
All their units around us (4 Archers and a Spear), are dead for the cost of a Horseman. Yet alarmingly, they remain strong compared to us....probably due to the HP damage of our various Horses.
All city production switched to Military! 3 turns until Iron connected. Slider dropped to 10% to rake in 25gpt for a Warrior upgrade in a few turns

I would like you all to recognise and remember the wisdom and insight displayed by our Minister of Economics, the Right Reverend Solomwi, several hundred years ago in this very palce
