I'm new and only playing my second game, but I use needlejets to jump all over the ai's pesky artillary whenever it's left unguarded by stronger units on the way to lay seige to my cities.
I also use them to target probes and other stray units that wander randomly into my territory.
I'm only playing on the 3rd level of difficulty up from easiest (I forgot what it's called) so I guess the ai isn't making it's most brilliant decisions yet.
But the needlejets are good for general houscleaning right now.

I always end up using crawlers, usually with Plasma Steel Armor just in case.
But then I don't excessivly mine anything, I just kill off anyone who disagrees with me - which is everyone else.

In wartime - yes.
Remember that we're not on Chiron..
And after all - why not implement thing which is technically possible.
On Earth if someone decided to armor his milk cistern, people would just say he's wasting resources, not exploiting anything.
ON the other side - when you'll take it to scrapping facility ir'll cost WAY more because all that metal and other materials will clearly be valuable.

Damage is equal to weapon strength divided by 2 multiplied by your reactor value
So a weapon 10 unit with a fusion reactor kills ALL adjacent fission units (armor is irrelevant) unless in a base ( I'm not certain if bunkers act as bases for this purpose).
It can be a super effective tactic against crawler fields. Plink a couple to get into the middle and then kaboom.
Its also the reason that I say that there is no combination of units that is survivable in the open against an opponent with tech parity and the same number of minerals to spend attacking your stack. Once you get to weapon 10 values and above, you are talking reducing the strength of EVERY unit in the stack by half with a single self destruct ( assuming same reactor values) and 2 self destructs kills the entire stack

Yes it is limited to adjacent tiles and yes diagonal is considered adjacent. Nothing makes the range bigger ( I know you are thinking of Planet Busters with that idea)
