Well, I for one am a little disapointed that it will take some time again to build up a rank high enough to gain my very own avatar. I have a great one lined up but unfortunatly now I can't post it as my understanding is it will require 500 to 600 posts and I am now listed as contributing a mere 11!

Oh well, c'est la vie I suppose. A solution to this dilemma could be to start up the two threads I was a major contributor on (flags and Jules Verne development) and build up my post total through countless yet insightfull and intelligent contributions.

Does it really take 500 posts to get your own avatar? I see quite afew forum members around who seem to be new members but have there own avatars. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right place or not setting it up right. Any thoughts?

Yikes, What a nasty surprise. Just noticed. Would've though backups ran a bit more frequently?

I must say I heartily approve of returning to the old forum name though - that Civ2 creation bit stuck on the end just didn't look right ...

I don't see how the admin cannot reboost post counts back to what they used to be?

Every other forum in the Western world can remove or add posts, why poly any different?

The problem is that plenty of posts were lost and will remain lost. Without those posts there's no way to find out what our postcount was before the crash, so they can't know what to reboost it back to.

I lost 400 posts in the crash.

So perhaps a 300-400 boost in posts across the board for everyone might not be too far off...

I personally had just crossed the threashold of 500 posts and was promptly dropped down to 11. I would be in favor of Curt's proposal of a 1000 posts credit, but I would be more than happy with a boost of 300 to 400 posts.

i lost over 500
i lost count after i got my first custom avatar, and after the crash i had 15 posts, , so i might have been closer to 550-600 posts but, i'll just stick to 500, i at least need to be able to upload a new avatar from time to time, plus i would like the title of princess, mainly i was to lazy to ask for it before, (actually i want the title of athenia, destroyer of men)
i guess i need like 250,000 posts to get a title like that,

Well, my post count wasn't totally concentrated in SL. (see why it is important to not put all your eggs in one basket kids! ) Only lost between 200-300 posts. I got that figure based on my daily posting average, which was around 1.07 post a day but is now at 0.96.

I won't be making emperor at this rate soon...

Well, judging by the feedback so far I would say that a 300-500 post compensation would be fare and generally well accepted by the forum.

What does the forum say to this suggestion? I am only one voice and it will take many united to make this idea become a reality.

I was enthused by the ranking system based on post counts, happy that I seemed to be advancing in rank, and a little dissapointed when my reank dropped back to settler, and though I had not made it to a custom avatar yet, was looking forward to getting there sooner than plausibly. I second the motion for compensation posts, barring reasonable substitute, and recommend 628 posts for myself. seriously too.

I agree with techumseh, city graphics, icon graphics, people graphics and terrains should all be mixed together as they are often the neglected fields of graphics.

Just what is going on? The two days that were supposedly required to restore the threads have elapsed, and I see Leo has posted new graphics threads. While I appreciate that people are undoubtedly beavering away behind the scenes to restore the threads, it doesn't help to keep everyone in the dark. Are the threads recoverable, and if so how much is salvageable? When will the restoration work be complete? What is happening with regard to the SLeague forum changes that have been mooted?

Just give the admins some time. They said they would restore the forum as far as possible and have no doubt they will.

I have a feeling that restoring those threads (plus the images) from a backup takes a lot of handywork.

That's because MarkG is keeping us posted in the Apolyton/Community forum. In a topped thread no less. The Apolyton/Community forum is the proper place for discussions regarding, well, Apolyton.

St Leo already put up a forum index thread. The rest that's being discussed isn't about the forum, but about the SLeague website... And that discussion is ongoing in techumseh's "SL New Look" thread.

People wanted to retire the unwieldy old threads, so I created new ones. The old champions will return in the near future, but they will probably be retired then (unless the community's sentiment reverses).

Well I glad the forum seems to be up and running, for the most part at least. I just hope a solution can be found to the problem of having the forum members demoted in rank as a result of the deletion.
