quote: Sleague Copyrights
We have a relaxed attitude towards copyright. With one exception -- [[:Category:Alex Mor|Alex Mor]] -- none of us are in this to make money. Rather, we are giving back to the games that we love.
When someone creates content for a game and makes it available online, they intend for it to be widely disseminated among those who would appreciate it. In most cases, you may presume implicit permission to forward and to highlight with full credit. The creators want to share with others what they enjoyed making, but they also want to be recognized for their art, their craft, and their achievements.
Please respect the work of others. Present it in a tasteful and aethetically pleasing manner. Integrate the creations into the larger picture, but also showcase every work as an achievement in its own right. Refer to people by their pseudonym of choice, and follow the spirit of their explicit instructions. Don't forget those who were before us, and keep their works available for those who will come after us.
The rules are:
*be respectful and appreciative; honour fellow creators
*be reasonable; it is okay to presume certain things
*do not be stupid; Britney Spears mp3s do not belong here
*give proper credit; it is plagiarism if you don't |
So, am I going to get flamed for this?

well if we're going to single out Alex Mor, we might want to write a little on what we can do with his work?

So where does this leave us? Why have the upload disclaimer if members ignore it?
Should all authors/artists be contacted for their approval before uploading?

I don't see why scenarios or graphics that are already hosted by other public civ2 sites, can't be hosted at SL.
To contact all members before uploading would leave too much bureacracy and ultimately be very ineffective for a dynamic site such as the new SL site will be.
And I agree, the upload disclaimer is maybe a bit improper as it is, and probably will not be, respected.

I'll take a look.
Okay, I agree with the gist of Proper Credits for Graphics:
quote: curtsibling:
It concerns the proper credit when posting units.
I think when posting a series of units by say, Case,
Darthveda, fairline or ANZAC the posters should say so.
If not it implies that you have lain claim to the units,
which I think is not a very good vibe to be putting across.
I think also that changing three pixels and then pasting
your sig onto a unit is pushing the boundaries a bit. |
However, I think that it's pretty much implied for the wiki. New units should still be pasted in the forum threads. The wiki will be getting compilations, and those compilations are supposed to be organized by artist (or, if dealing with something ancient like Harlan's AllUnits, by compiler).
As for An artist's right to post his or her creation, I still think it's silly on the forums and even sillier on the wiki. Our attrition rate is too high for this, and most artists would want their units to be used (as long as proper credit is given) even if they are spending a year in a Turkish prison for tax reasons and can't get to their email inbox.

Leo, you did something a little strange with the Nemo/Anzac ship units, they aren't coming up when you click on the civ2 units category. That World War II subheader is probably screwing things up...

no, someone may have spelled historical incorrectly somewhere, and that's what the problem is.
