Try one at a temperature above 60 degrees C. It'll be really funny. Not for you, admittedly.

According to the article, the valve would prevent being able to warm a bath that has cooled off.

Look again at the source . The only thing where I remotely trust the article s when it says that a politician wants to adress the problem of scalding water.

Put an end to popups!

Okay, assume I'm a child. My parents are distracted and they draw a bath that scalds me. I now have 3rd degree burns over a substantial part of my body. I get to live my life in pain, suffering years of operations and skin grafts and look like a freak. How exactly is my life helped by punishing the parent who made the accident happen?

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Here's another way of looking at it.

Those control taps are expensive. These measures mean you get them automatically. If you want to keep them, then award yourself a big cup of milky tea and a biscuit.

If you want to keep them, but can't be arsed to keep them maintained, award yourself a big cup of milky tea and a biscuit. Who's going to be able to enforce it? They can't for gas boilers, so thinking the tap police will come calling is hilarious.

If you don't want them, get a spanner. Go down to "B & Q" and spend £15 on a new set of ordinary taps. Fit them in a 30 minute job. I'll post instructions on how to do this if anyone's confused. Then award yourself a big cup of milky tea and a biscuit.

Whilst doing so, take time out to ponder how this can be considered "news". You freaks.

I think I can visualize Boris' scenario more clearly for you. Imagine that you've been enjoying a nice soak for a while, but the water is getting cold. The tub is nearly full with clean water so what you really want is a little very hot water to warm up the large amount of lukewarm water that you currently have. I agree with Boris, we should have a choice. Perhaps as Spencer suggests this should be regulated only in apartments where people cannot independently make a choice that fits their situation. Otherwise let adults run hot water if they want.

I am not sure what is this device that is proposed?

If it's some sort of thermostat that keeps a person from having extremely hot water pouring over him in the shower, or extremely hot water being in a bath, who the hell in their right minds would oppose it?

Che had a good point about old people in nursing homes or young children who are left at the mercy of someone else who just might not care. Like Japher said we have scald protectors in California and nothing bad seemed to happen. It might halp a few people and it doesn't cost much so why not?

They can either not buy a new-build house, or request for the fittings to be altered at purchase. No builder in the world would risk losing a sale over changing a set of £50 taps.

The attitude behind this question helps explain why you have constant money problems.

JohnT, if it is for new builds, the attitude is perfectly acceptable.
