You're joking, but Civ 3 only supported 1024 x 768.

Pirates supports resolutions ranging from 640x480 to 1024x768, so I don't see why Civ wouldn't be able to support them too.

Because the units are so big that not a single one would fit on the screen at 800x600 .

Only? It should also support 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. We're in 2005, for God's sake... Think of all those people with flatpanels.

Not very many people use those resolutions, text can be hard to read unless you have a humungous monitor. 15" - 17" is pretty much standard, making 800 X 600 and 1024 X 768 the standard resolutions.

I have a 17" LCD and its native resolution is 1280x1024. I can assure you, its quite easy on the eyes... I don't know what sort of monitor most people use, but most CRT's sold today are 19", and most LCD's above 17" come with at least a 1280x1024 native resolution. Surely, it must not be that huge a deal to support at least 1280x1024...

You must have very good eyes then. For old fogeys like me, that resolution on a 17" is pretty much unreadable. And anyone else with less than perfect eye sight would have a hard time of it as well.

A lot of people are using 15", that was pretty much the standard for awhile there. Now 17" are becoming pretty common. Once the flat screens start coming down in price, I suspect that people will start switching to 19", but that resolution isn't all that commonly used yet.

I can see using 1280 X 1024 on a 19", but I wouldn't consider it on anything less than that. Just to hard on the eyes.

You gotta be kidding me. My eyesight is lousy. But with my glasses or my contacts, I'm ok. Its true that if you increase the resolution, everything basically gets smaller. But you can ajust just about everything in Windows. I admit, the normal-sized icons are a bit too small, so I increased their size. And in Word, you can easily ajust the size of the fonts. And its all made crisper because of the higher resolution. Not to mention Cleartype. And remember that a 17" LCD is really 17", whereas a 19" CRT is really more like 18". So there's not a huge difference between them. So, like I said, its quite easy on the eyes

I don't have the numbers, but you probably underestimate the number of people with 19" CRT's or 17" LCDs. The native resolution of most 17"inch LCDs sold right now is 1280x1024. And there's no point using a 19"CRT at anything lower than 1280x1024. And as you probably know, not using your LCDs native resolution is not the best option. So it would be real nice if Civ 4 supported at least 1280 x 1024. For me and my fellow flat panelers, at least

That's not the problem, it's the system default fonts that give me trouble. Sure I can select a larger font, but then I encounter problems with some applications and web sites. For instance, Red Alert won't give you an option to create a random map if you're using large system fonts. The option gets squeezed out. And the Warcraft site menu gets scrambled up as well, to name a couple.

But with the price of flat screens as they are now, you guys are still a minority. and not many people have the room for a large tube screen. I'd love to have a nice 19" plasma monitor, but I just can't see spending that kind of money at this time. I can see your point though.

I have a 17" CRT, and use 1600x1200. I hate the bigger resolutions, they are too big and shows too little of the screen. And just so it's said: I do not have the world's best sight, and yet it works quite okay for me.

Is 64 MB GeForce4 Graphic Card enough for this game ? for 1024x768
with CPU AthlonXP 1600+ , 256 MB RAM, I think it will work, hm?
I think 800x600 is not too bad for strategic games,

I have very good eyesight, and prefer 1024 on good 15" monitors, and 1280 on 17" monitors, don't like it higher. And, I don't see the point of spending much money on a monitor, maybe it's because I'm not really keen on graphics, but I think a monitor has to do its job, and that's it. A 17" CRT monitor is more than enough now, IMHO.

Until you try to fit 5 rather big windows that can not overlap and should all be visible at all times (and have a readable font ). I could really use 21', even 16:9, seriously.

We're talking last millenium here.

You can't really expect them to make a game that will still run on a C64, can you?
THey would loose a bigger customer potential by supporting those than they would gain by using some flashy graphics.
