Well, those specs finish me off, a grumpy old codger who has played civ since the original game on the amiga. I used to be content in the knowledge that with no interest whatsoever in action shoot -em ups, etc, I would always be able to play the two brain- engaging games worth spending time on - ie civ and the now rebranded football manager - on my laptop (which does have a dedicated 3d graphics card., just not one up to these specs). Neither expected high performance to be able to run.
I would have guessed that fair proportion of the market for the civ franchise was people like me who know that we don't need a state of the art bells and whistles machine to do everything else we want to do with a computer, and don't see the point of spending lots of money just to run teenager's games. I know the processor and memory specs are perfectly reasonable for most machines, but the graphics card issue is going to hit the minority.
Anyway, I think i'm going to buy an i-mac next time. Wonder if civ 4 will be ported across.
btw I'm very uneasy about the new 3d graphics. Anyone else worried that zooming perspective images make it harder, not easier, to see what's going on around the civworld?
i'm off to sulk
