It's sort of funny that we are referencing a thread on CFC that was referencing a thread on ACS.

Gathering Storm, 1270 AD, Turn 244, the turn that Lego fell.

We only had 76 posts before the turn arrived.

Then again, we did end up having 950 posts in the turn threads, and a further 250 posts about that turn, and the reprocussions.

I'm not joking. We really did post 1200 posts about that turn..

Cool, but we have zero contacts, one Settler, one Worker, and it is 4000 BC. There is a limit you can talk about the move. This thread has been hijacked into a general development strategy thread. The moves for the turn are described on the first page, and you can do no better.

Hijacking? I want to know the feelings of the team before I play the turn. What we want for 15 and 25 turns from now has a large impact on the decisions that the ministers and Consuls make.

The more discussion the better. It is a sign of a vibrant, healthy team.

Let 'er rip, people.

yeah, come on people, have a go with the sim. It's easy enough.

Oh, and plant the settler first, move worker after. The Germans and the possible goody hut swung it for me. Settling where we started is not really that bad a deal...

True, but not in one thread.

Would it not be better to create separate ones for mid- and long-term strategy, instead of putting everything in one place? I guarantee you much of this will be very hard to find in a month or so, hence getting repeated over and over...

True, but at the moment much of what we are discussing is speculative. Once we see more of the map, then longer term strategy can move to a thread of its own.

The bits I'm most keenly interested in deal with the short term and will affect our turn 1.

Avatar Enlargement: We've got the solution

Future turn threads most likely will not turn to "free for all"'s. There is a free flowing discussion here mainly pertaining to what we do in our first turn; it just so happens that a lot of people are basing their opinions about what we do on what they want to do over the course of the next 1-100 turns.

If anyone wants to break off from this basic turn 1 discussion, feel free to create a thread for a specific topic and most people will try to keep it on track.

well.

We opend a goody hut via placing a city close to it = no barbs possible. and we got a tech in it.

It was the tech on which we worked.

That's not all, i used that save to test what happend if i changed the tech we were searching on, bevore i open the goody hut..and the goody hut every time give the tech which was in defelopprogress.

It was in the beginning of the game and not all main tech where owned, i tnk that is the reason why that happend.

It was worse to find the tech which was still in progress to defelop :/..but well ...now i know that this is possibel.

wait, what? We see no goody hut in the map, what's the benefit of planting a city before moving the worker to see more of the map? After moving the worker if we don't see any good reason to move, THEN we can start our first city.

crosspost:

like i said:

did we need to explore?
don't look like.
We place there the city THAN we move worker.
Maybe via city we see a goody hut ..who know's.
Than the worker should take this goody hut and move than to the cattle.
If there is no goody hut the worker move to the cattle.

hmm what did we do now first?
move worker to see more? and if yes-> where to go?
Or did we build there without scouting?
If yes than see above.

Planting the city will give us a much larger view of the surrounding area than will just moving the worker in one direction. If, and only if, we see a hut, will we move the worker towards it, otherwise, we will move to the cow. At least that's my opinion on how we should proceed.

If we move the worker first, then plant the city, then we may have moved the worker in the wrong direction.

The only reason to move the worker to the cow first is to see if we want to plant our first city either 1,2 or 3 (keypad wise) from our current position.

A good argument can be made for either way...

And then the only way that would really help us is if we found another resource/lux 2 of the cow. We can't move our worker only one move and see any other tiles that would not already be under our influence except for the tile that is 2 of the cow. So, to move the worker first and for us to benefit from that first move, we would have to find a lux/resource just below that cow.

If we are in fact sitting on bonus grassland I would then suggest we move the settler 1 (red X) and settle there regardless of what we find by moving the worker to the cow.

If it is not, it is still open for debate to either settle there or first check to see if there is anything worthwhile at the "Yellow ?"

It will be hard to convince me either way

I think we are going to have to wait to get the save before we can tell if that is bonus grassland or not under our settler.

I made two maps, one with bonus under him and one with out and from the screen shots, it's very difficult to tell.

Here's one:
