Intelligence thread - pure stats Support Apolyton, buy Civilization 2

The thread will include only pure stats - mainly F11 numbers and facts, F8 scores and percents and the size of the cities of our opponents. I'd like to keep the thread only informative. All comments should happen in another threads. If it is required we could make a second thread named "Intelligence - analysys" or something similar.

This is a list of the F11 magick numbers meaning:

Approval rating:
The percentage of your people that are happy. If every single person is happy, you have 100%. If everyone is content it is 50%. Edit: This can be misleading when you get specialists, because the specialists count as only content people. So even if everyone is happy or an entertainer, you won't have 100% approval rating if you have any specialists.

Rounddown (50% + ((Number of happy citizens) - (Number of unhappy citizens)) / (Total number of citizens) / 2 * 100%)

Population: Add up all the population you get from the city view from all your cities. Not population points, like size 1, 2 or 3, etc. but the 10,000 or 100,000 you see under the city name.
Sum(i=1..N) {Pop in City(i)}
Pop in City = {Sum (j=1..(City Size)) {j} + (Food in Storage) / (Storage Size)} * 10000

GNP: Total gold in all your cities before corruption takes a bite out of it.
1 gold= 1 million

Mfg. Goods: Total unwasted shields in all your cities.
1 shield = 1 megaton.

Land Area: # of tiles in your territory * 100.
1 Tile =100 square miles
Sea is included in this, but does not help in the territory part of your game score.

Literacy (%)
(Citizens who live in a city with a Library + Citizens who live in a city with a University + Citizens who live in a city with a Research Lab) / 3 / (Total Number of Citizens) * 100% + (3% if Literature discovered)
If every city has just a library you will have 33%, because they are missing the other 2 science buildings.

Edit: Or live in a city with 1 or more scientific Great Wonders (Great Library, Newtons, SETI, Theory of Evolution, Cure for Cancer, and Internet) Copernicus's does not count because despite it helps science, it isn't given the scientific flag. Having 1 of those wonders counts the same as if they had all the other improvements in the city. Two small wonders (apollo and Intelligence Agency) give you credit for having 50% science in that city. You also get 3% added to your literacy rate when you get the literature tech. No bonus when you get education. Great Library still helps your literacy rate even after it is obsolete.

Disease (%)
(Number of Floodplains + Jungle in territory) / (Total Number of territory tiles) * 100%

Pollution: # of tiles that are currently polluted. 1 ton = 1 polluted territory tile

Life Expectancy (# of years)
20 + {(Citizens who live in a city with a Granary + Citizens who live in a city with a Aqueduct + Citizens who live in a city with a Hospital) / 3 / (Total Number of Citizens) * 80}

Family Size: The average amount of excess food that each city is producing/2. If you have 1 city that is producing 4 extra food, that 4 food would feed 2 people, so your family size would be 2 children. Minimum is 1, hard to say exactly what the max would be. In most cases you won't see this above 2, maybe 3 or 4 if all your cities are extremely rich in food, experiencing a very fast growth period or just put down a alot of railroads on irrigated tiles.

Military Service: 10 years * # of military units / # of citizens. Military units are units with an attack and defense value, so workers, scouts and princesses don't count. Kings do. So at the start of a mass regicide game you will have a military service of 70 years because of the 7 military units *10 years divided by just your 1 citizen. 0 years if you have no army or you have just a few units, but thousands of population points.

Annual Income: The number of connected strategic/luxury resource types in your territory. The minimum value is 1 and you get a +1 bonus for your first trade route with another civ. Thanks DaveMcW

Productivity: The total amount of uncorrupted gold, unwasted shields, and excess food you are producing in all your cities
(Total Shields) - (Total Waste) + (Total Commerce) - (Total Corruption) + (Net Total Food)

How to determine the amount of beakers required to discover a tech, and to check if anyone has discovered a tech:

Tech costs

quote:
Research Cost = [MM * [10*COST * (1 - N/[CL*1.75])]/(CF * 10)] - Research done so far

Research Cost and research done so far are in gold.

Square brackets indicate truncation /rounddown

MM = map modifier(tech rate on world sizes tab in the editor)

Small 200

CF = AI cost factor(as on the difficulty tab in the editor)
For the purposes of the research cost formula, CF has a maximum value of 10.

Emperor 8

COST = technology cost as on the civilization advances tab in the editor.

N = number of civs on the diplomacy screen that have discovered the tech.

CL = number of civs left in the game

Ergo if a tech has not been discovered, it costs 30 beakers per tech point.

A little more precise:

Army Strength Formula
Update: Jun 16th, 2003

  • Approval Rating (%)
Rounddown (50% + ((Number of happy citizens) - (Number of unhappy citizens)) / (Total number of citizens) / 2 * 100%)

  • Population (# of people)
    Sum(i=1..N) {Pop in City(i)}

    Pop in City = {Sum (j=1..(City Size)) {j} + (Food in Storage) / (Storage Size)} * 10000

  • GNP (millions)
    1 million = 1 Commerce (before corruption)
[EDIT by E_T] Slider setting & Trade Improvement dependant. If you have lots of Markets and banks but no Libs, then it will show more with slider set at tax than at beakers. This Value is equil to the From Citys Income part of the F1 screen.

  • Mfg. Goods (megatons)
    1 megaton = 1 shield (after corruption)

  • Land area (square miles)
100 square miles = 1 territory tile (including sea tiles)

  • Literacy (%)
(Citizens who live in a city with a Library + Citizens who live in a city with a University + Citizens who live in a city with a Research Lab) / 3 / (Total Number of Citizens) * 100% + (3% if Literature discovered)

The following wonders count as Library, University and Research Lab: Great Library, Newton's, SETI Program, Theory of Evolution, Cure for Cancer, Internet.

The following small wonders count as half a wonder: Apollo Program, Intelligence Agency.

  • Disease (%)
(Number of Floodplains + Jungle in territory) / (Total Number of territory tiles) * 100%

  • Pollution (tons)
    1 ton = 1 polluted territory tile

  • Life Expectancy (# of years)
    20 + {(Citizens who live in a city with a Granary + Citizens who live in a city with a Aqueduct + Citizens who live in a city with a Hospital) / 3 / (Total Number of Citizens) * 80}

  • Family Size (# of children)
    Max {1, (Net Total Food) / (Number of Cities) / 2}

  • Military Service (# of years)
(Number of Military Units with Attack > 0) / (Total Number of Citizens) * 10

  • Annual income (# per capita)
1 + (Number of available Strategic and Luxury Resource Types) + (1 if you have a trade route)

  • Productivity (#)
(Total Shields) - (Total Waste) + (Total Commerce) - (Total Corruption) + (Net Total Food)

Army Strength Formula
Update: May 24th 2004

The formula below seems to be precise for units with a Defense Value that is a multiple of 4. It is accurate to within 1% for units with a defense value greater than 2. For spearmen, it's within 5% accurate. For warriors, I cannot say.

The {} means: round down to 1 decimal.

Unit Strength =

(MAX (3;Hitpoints) / 3)
* (0.6 * Attack Value + 0.4 * {Defense Value * 1.25 if Fortified} + Bombard Strength Value / 15)
* (1.01 if UU and CivSpecificAbilitiesOn)

Army Strength =

Sum (Unit Strengths) * (Factor depending on ArmySupportCost)

No influence:

  • "Naval" ability
  • Movement value
  • Rate of Fire value
  • Bombard Range value
  • Terrain
  • Forts

May be out of date for C3C, though.

Free form information Suffering from ads?

4000 BC
Everyone builds their capitol

3950BC
Everyone has a cow tile over grasslands in a tile next to a river.

3900BC
PAL completes road on the cow tile

3850BC
CBR complete road over the cow tile

3800BC
We, CDZ and CGN completed irrigation of the cow tile.
BAT should have too because they increased only one turn after us but there is still a team with productivity of 9 units.

3750BC
- CGN built a worker
- CDZ, BAT and CBR have built military units (warriors), PAL didn't play their turn yet.
- three teams are making more gold than us - CDZ, CBR and PAL.
- we are second in Mfg. This means one of the teams with population 2 is making an additional shield and the other - not. My guess is one of them works shielded grassland not at the river and the other - common grassland at a river

3700BC
- BAT and PAL increased in size
- Dropped one more place in GNP (sharing last places with CGN)
- Dropped 3 places in Mfg - knowing CGN have the same quality tile to work like us we may be sure they have irrigated their cow too

3600BC
- CDZ have irrigated their cow grassland or their second wf works over flood plains
- 3 teams have more military units than us (i.e. three teams have at leats 2 military unnits). CGN are not one of those teams.

CDZ, CGN or CBR complete road over the cow tile

Very good observation on PAL roading in 3900BC (being industrious, hence completing the road faster) and excluding BAT in 3850BC (not agricultural, hence their productivity will be one point less)

maybe irrigating as E_T says. We can't validate because our productivity is either at 11 (working on cow) or 9 (working on SG).

Not sure i should be posting in this thread. If this is not the right place to post comments, please delete it. This thread should be topped. Good work.

I have asked to not post here to keep the thread informative and don't need to switch between pages if you want a glance of the history of these numbers

maybe I should start a thread for each 10 or 15 turns?

ok, thread is open for discussions and if needed I'll open new one where I'll copy the stats

You're right, I can't tell because if someone has wetlands he would be placed 2nd, 3rd... 6th but not first. First team is the team with least number of these tiles. Removed

3800 BC there is still one team with producitivity 9, probably are they

True, fixed in the race table and in the free form report

Got spare money?

ormuzd, since i already posted in this thread, i might as well continue posting

Just noticed you have updated your free form information.

quote:
- Three teams have built military units (warriors), PAL didn't play their turn yet.

the 3 teams are CDZ, BAT and CBR.

quote:
- three teams are making more gold than us - BAT and PAL have roads, so only one of the two who increased in size are producing more gold. This means the other teams works a tile not at the river.

I am not sure if the F11 scores can confirm it's BAT that has roaded, since the productivity score for last place has stayed at 9 for a few turns now.

p.s. i also updated my analysis in the Turn 6 thread. It's almost identical to what you have posted here.

there are three capital with size 1 right now, correct?
if realy everyone has got a cow on grassland, then this means there were 3 civs who built a worker first, doesn't it?

Full PM-box? Change here!

No, there are only 2 teams with Pop 1. CGN and Poly.

We cannot see PAL as their capital is not in the Top 5 cities. But PAL is likely at Population 2. Why ?

1. Because our population is at #5. If 3 teams built Worker, then we should be joint #4 in population.
2. The average score also appears to suggest this. CDZ and CBR (Both Pop 2) are at 45. PAL is also 45. BAT which grows population 1 turn later is at 44. CGN and Poly is at 43, both produce workers.

but if PALs capital has got size 2 then why isn't it in the top5?
i thought the factors are:
1. culture (every body got the same)
2. size
3. food in store

so if pal has got size 2 they should be in the top5...
though your arguments are also true...

I'd say PAL met someone last turn.

Last turn they were long on the save (18 hours). This turn they are over 24 hours.

I'm not sure where else to put this.

It's hard to tell a pattern with some teams.

code:
Time on turn since turn 5 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 CDZ 0.5 12.5 10.0 21.0 12.5 16.5 6.5 7.5 BAT 10.5 13.5 14.5 - 14.0 1.5 18.0 CGN 5.5 4.0 0.2 1.5 4.0 0.5 0.2 CBR 13.0 8.0 2.0 3.5 10.0 8.5 11.5 ACS 2.0 4.0 8.0 1.0 2.5 1.5 2.5 PAL 5.0 8.0 1.5 8.0 18.0 33.0 13.0

... if I've not made any mistakes.

CGN has had a couple of 10 minute turns. There was one case where BAT did not post.

I'd say CDZ looks like a candidate.

The last turns scores are now startingto show some differestiation (SP). From the values, it's confirmed that PAL is now size 3. So, they didn't go with a worker build, at any time.

E_T, can i clarify with you "how you confirm that PAL is at size 3 ?"

We are 4th in Population, that means only 3 teams are ahead in Population compared to us. From the Top 5 screen, CDZ, BAT, CBR are all size 3, they are the 3 teams. We are size 2, that means CGN and PAL have to be size 2 or less. (Note : PAL plays after us, it's possible that PAL is size 2 when we are playing our turn but grows to size 3 when PAL plays the turn)

PAL is industrious, and hence capable of improving tiles faster than the rest of us. PAL could have built 2 Warriors & 1 worker while we manage just 1 E Warrior and 1 worker. At the same time, PAL's tiles will be more productive as PAL builds roads/mines/irrigations faster.

ormuzd, for the cities population screen, i would suggest keeping just the population of cities in the top 5 there. This will allow us to know which cities are in the top 5 at a given time.

My information for the PAL's capital comes from the combination of top 5 cities and F8 screen. In the moment I have the smallest doubt there is a settler out there I'll start update information with certain facts.

Nothing in the tables, nor in the Free form report is a guess, everything is proven although something is made after logical conclusions.

I'll try to make a massive update to everything in the coming days and probably answer a couple of questions if there are any.

If there is a settler out there, we will know soon when our Land Area drops to 2nd. I hope not though.

I will try & find sometime during the weekend to understand how the F8 population % is computed.

Lose 30 kilos (of popups)

it's simple - it counts the units of all cities and then calculates the relative share

example
CGN CBR PAL BAT - 2, Apo, CDZ - 1

Total = 10

the first four have 20% of the world population, the other two - 10%

Let's suppose CGN increased to 3 and all others are at two

Total = 11
CDZ = 27% (3/11)
BAT, PAL, CBR = 18% (2/11)
APO, CGN = 9% (1/11)
