With all of the Bonuses, I would say at least very heavily man made, with maybe some ideas taken from a random map or 2.

I think that the mountain 2 2 of the western cow, SW of the gold hill will reveil the way to CBR. Just a hunch from the layout of the land.

they may have decided to move east just because after they met our warrior they decided we are to the east. Additionally there were hills and after they moved their warrior they should have seen our borders. All this makes me believe we are still unsure where their capital is located - West, South or Southwest

From what I can gather I believe he made the map by hand and then let the game place resources and then adjusted the location of them to sort of even things out. The main reason I believe this is because he talked of accidently leaving out the possibility of having bonus grassland under forrests and jungle; something that he has said he went back and fixed.

If you let the game generate a map that would not happen. So, I believe he made the land masses.
