It wasn't intentional; I think it happened as a result of the failed killing curse.

In further support of this: the killing curse leaves NO mark. Harry is scarred--this is a result of being made a horcrux.

Even if Harry is a horcrux, I think he'll be able to somehow un-horcrux himself. I just don't see him dying in 7.

spoiler(highlight to read):
And I agree entirely about Ginny - I was thinking as I read it, Dumbledore keeps lecturing you on the power of love, and then you cut yourself off from it?

I think the surprise at the end of 7 may be Dumbledore's return, for two reasons. First, there's the thing about as long as one person loyal to Dumbledore remains - and Harry is Dumbledore's man through and through, as we are reminded - and the overarching war is supposed to be the magic of love vs the magic of hate/death/whatever. Harry obviously loved Dumbledore strongly. And Dumbledore is associated closely with the pheonix.

By all accounts, creating a Horcrux is an astonishingly difficult piece of Dark magic... the chances of it being unintentional strike me as being rather remote. I'd expect creating one to resemble a prolonged ritual-style spell, as seen in Voldemort's ressurection in GoF.

He's also tried to kill Harry on several occasions... why destroy your own Horcrux?

Put an end to popups!

I think Rowling has made it clear that D is dead i.e. "no coming back". Of course, he will still be in his portraits.

EDIT: To hell with the spoilers.

I think this is another good point. The connection between V and Harry is unique and perhaps the scar is the indication of his being a horcrux. If Harry is a horcrux, then we can expect to see the transfer of V's soul from Harry to an object and then its destruction (despite Imrans bizarre opinion it is impossible for Harry to be killed- these books are about good triumphing over evil after all).

Any guesses as to Grawps role in the final battles?

Whether or not you believe in Harry as a horcrux (I don't), the question about the scar and the pain it illicits from time to time is an interesting question that has to be answered.

It makes perfect sense to use THE_CHOSEN_ONE as a Horcrux , bacause Voldemort cannot be killed by THE_CHOSEN_ONE as long as THE_CHOSEN_ONE is alive , but Voldemort can survive even after killing THE_CHOSEN_ONE . It ensures that either both go down , or only Voldemort survives .

Another thing - Dumbledore immobilised Harry to protect him , due to which he died . Does this mean that , like Lily , Dumbledore died to save Harry , thus affording him similar protection for the last and final round of this conflict ?

I believe that's made clear by the fact that you can't bring people back from the dead, period.

However, it would fit in rather nicely if it turned out that this awesome love magic (god that sounds retarded) can bring people back from the dead (presumably if they are very loved).

Yes, it would be lame. But, rest assured, Rowling is talented enough not to do it. In Epic Pooh, Moorcock says she's redoubtable. Its fitting. Harry had it rough.

I don't think she wrote the pensieve scenes properly. She should have at least changed narrators. For example, when reliving Snape's memories, use Snape as a narrator; when reliving Dumbledore's memories, use Dumbledore as narrator...

No, I don't think so. Dumbledore didn't face the direct choice between life with dead Harry and death with live Harry. He was going to be killed anyway. This is elucidated by Rowling in the last set of questions in this interview.

My theory as to how it ends? In a nutshell, there is a final meeting between Voldemort and Harry, and with both being unable to curse one another, Voldemort will, as he has done in every other book, use something else. In this case, Snape. Instead of Snape being for Voldemort, as Average Joe will think after he killed Dumbledore, Snape kills Potter. However, the killing of Potter is the final horcrux and Snape turns on Voldemort.

Dumbledores memories in the pensieve wouldnt be interactive though only informative - perhaps as to why he trusts Snape (the Lilly infatuation) and that he asked Snape to kill him under defined circumstances.

Only the portraits would be interactively useful on a day-to-day basis.

The theory isn't that Voldy deliberately used HP, but rather that the backfiring of the death curse caused it to happen. However, given the considerable care to which Voly takes to protect his horcruxes, either he doesn't know HP is one of his horcrux or HP isn't one (as he's tried to kill HP on several occassions). If he doesn't know, then there's still be another horcrux out there, since Voldy would have tried to create what he thought was a 7th.

Yeah, the theory is that he was prepared to make a horcrux after killing the Potter's but, you know... oops, and the split soul was still there and went to the kid.

Fanciful? Perhaps... but then so is the concept of horcruxes, when you think about it .
