Let me tell you about my experiences with the cops:
I got pulled over for going 40 km/h in a 30 km/h zone many years ago. The cop was polite, procedural, and told me to have a nice day at the end.
I was at a very noisy house party during high school grad. Cops responded to a nice complaint, drove me and several other under-age kids home (there was obviously drinking going on). No fines, no warnings, just a nice trip home for free.
I got pulled over for going 120 km/h in an 80 km/h zone over a year ago. The cop was polite, procedural, and told me to have a nice day at the end.
I got pulled over for going 142 km/h in a 100 km/h zone, and the cop was very friendly, polite, and wrote me a ticket of 15 km/h over so I wouldn't lose any points. At the end he tipped his hat to me and told me to have a nice day.
I'm sorry that your rotten attitude has gotten you into trouble, Che, but I'd perhaps look at where the problem really is...

The problem is you're not very insightful -- you're antisocial (I'm using this as a psychological term, not as an insult) and you jump to conclusions based on that. |
let's see... there's a short article that said police where chasing a man, they tackled him, and then shot him.
There was no context given to the chase, and I assumed that it had happened after the bombings and that the man was running from the police... a likely scenario, as the chase usually happens after the crime and not before it. It's a fair assumption, then, that the man did not have any capability of blowing himself up... because it would of already been done.
Within this context, an abuse of power seems like the most likely conclusion. Am I brushing all cops with the same stroke? No, I am judging only the cops in the article, who where reported to have restrained someone and then shot them.

I don't think you understand the motives of terrorist tactics, at least those that aim at foreigners in Iraq (be they western citizens or diplomats from other countries).
The Iraqi terrorists consider that anything which plays in favour of the stabilization of Iraq goes against their interests, as it favours the stabilization of the current government.
The NGO workers, be they American or Greek, contribute to alleviate the problems the terrorists cause. As they kill some NGO workers (and as they give the clear message that your nationality won't protect you), they scare current NGO workers into leaving, and more importantly, they scare potential workers into not coming.
Same with diplomats. Ever since the UN has lost his local director, the UN has stopped to have any significant role in Iraq.
Their eventual objective is to isolate the US, so that only the US remains, and so that the occupation (and the "collaboration" with the current government) will be much weaker. If they keep up with their quagmire long enough, the isolated US could even leave the country to its own devices, to its own civil war.
And this is exactly what these murderers want. |
I think this is the best analysis of the situation posted here so far.

See, you keep making assumptions. I've never gotten in trouble with the police. I've had my rights violated, but I was alone, there were twenty of them, and raising a big stink about it at the time seemed like a stupid thing to do, so I just let them search me.
However, I have seen cops fling people down the stairs, cops roll up out of nowhere and search everyone (except me) on the street, cops beating people, cops abusing people, etc. I know or have known several police officers and heard the stories they tell about the evil **** they do (such as an entire police department in Southern Illinois that would committ burgleries). I'm not even talking about the surpremely evil **** some cops do, like committing torture, rape, extrajudicial executions, etc.
Across the street from where I lived, a white woman was murdered by her white husband, who did not flee the seen. My neighbor held the woman in her arms as she died. When the police showed up, she pointed to the murderer, but the police kept trying to get her to say a Black teenager did it, even though she saw the murder right in front of her.
And then there's the Hollywood, FL police department.

That's interesting alright, but perhaps the problem is Florida and most of the shithole southern US states and major US cities have a corruption issue.
It's interesting that you're taking your experiences in Florida or wherever and assuming they apply everywhere, and even that they're widespread.
Do you really think most cops are bad people who like to blame black people for everything?
Or is it a bit more likely that our resident commie is being a drama queen?

i have a good friend whos brother is a NYC transit cop. Hes a good guy, from the few times ive met him. I also know personally a cop in Alexandria, VA (thats TWO jewish cops, BTW) My interactions with the police have been overwhelmingly positive, including the time we (QOTM, really) were being harassed by a heavy breathing phone caller, and a Baltimore cop was at our house, and the phone rang, and he offered to answer it. Heavy breathing started, he says "Hi, im Office --- of the Baltimore City Police." Guy hung up, never called again.
Im sure there are bad cops. Just as there are, say, bad muslims.

BBC:
Mark Whitby said: "I was sitting on the train... I heard a load of noise, people saying, 'Get out, get down'.
"I saw an Asian guy. He ran on to the train, he was hotly pursued by three plain clothes officers, one of them was wielding a black handgun.
"He half tripped... they pushed him to the floor and basically unloaded five shots into him," he told BBC News 24.
"As [the suspect] got onto the train I looked at his face, he looked sort of left and right, but he basically looked like a cornered rabbit, a cornered fox.
"He looked absolutely petrified and then he sort of tripped, but they were hotly pursuing him, [they] couldn't have been any more than two or three feet behind him at this time and he half tripped and was half pushed to the floor and the policeman nearest to me had the black automatic pistol in his left hand.
"He held it down to the guy and unloaded five shots into him.
"He [the suspect] had a baseball cap on and quite a sort of thickish coat - it was a coat you'd wear in winter, sort of like a padded jacket.
"He might have had something concealed under there, I don't know. But it looked sort of out of place with the sort of weather we've been having, the sort of hot humid weather.
"He was largely built, he was quite a chubby sort of guy.
"I didn't see any guns or anything like that - I didn't see him carrying anything. I didn't even see a bag to be quite honest.
"I got into the ticket hall. I was approached by a policeman and London Underground staff asking me if I needed counselling.
"I was just basically saying I've just seen a man shot dead. I've seen a man shot dead. I was distraught, totally distraught. It was no less than five yards away from where I was sitting. I actually saw it with my own eyes."
Commuter Anthony Larkin, who was also on the train at Stockwell station, told 5 Live he saw police chasing a man.
"I saw these police officers in uniform and out of uniform shouting 'get down, get down', and I saw this guy who appeared to have a bomb belt and wires coming out and people were panicking and I heard two shots being fired."
LOTM - well, lets discount the eyewitness who says he saw wires. This guy doesnt know that wearing a bulky jacket on a warm day is a mark of suspicion as a suicide bomber?? And again, when the cops chase him, he runs for the tube? And refuses to stop??

It seems like the British press and/or the authorities omit a lot of information in their reports. I assume this is deliberate, but perhaps I'm just jaded by the internet, where the "truth" is known within the hour because nobody can stop talking about events in the news. |
The authorities will withhold information for obvious reasons (avoid warning other perps, secure all information/avoid spreading false info), so rumors will abound for a bit. The truth will be out at the inevitable news conference at about 5.30pm or so.
In the paper the other day they wre saying how police got the order to go for the headshot (as compared to torso shot that UK police normally does if it needs to take someone down) in case of suicide bomber. What happened is not clear really yet, but if you don't stop in a tube station as an asian man being asked to stop by armed police you got a deathwish.

House search by the looks of it, rumors of 6 shots fired. Not much else to go.
