Bin Laden should have been captured by now, and it's a complete irresponsibility that he has not been.

The charade in Iraq has drawn away too many resources from the real just moral cause here.

For the record, I didn't say I didn't agree in spirit with what MOBIUS is trying to say, but then again given the reality on the ground it isn't as simple as that to capture OBL. He's adored by millions, so finding safe houses isn't a problem for him.

either way. It's not like he's touring the countryside. He's in one spot. I doubt he's moving around that much. If he is, he's being assisted by his buddies. Yeah a group of people moving is more obvious. But I doubt local populations would dare turn them in.

If we really wanted to get him, we would have him.

There's more to these things than just Marines, there's all sorts of intelligence assets, not to mention the administrative overhead to manage the whole thing.

Most of those are currently occupied with the larger force in Iraq, and the Afghanistan operation has become a sideshow.

This is shown as an example with the Army group that was tasked with finding both Saddam and Bin Laden, they are run by the exact same administrative group.

The same group is probably chasing down Al Queda in Iraq and whatever other insurgent of the week.

And on top of that there is the whole billion dollars a week being wasted in Iraq thing.

It's very easy to hide from people looking for you. Eric Rudolph did it for many years. Yes he was eventually caught, but it took many, many years.

And he did it in our own country which is well known to the FBI. And while there are wilderness areas on the east coast, much of it is privately owned (compared to the southwest and northwest). These areas have a significantly higher population than ares in Afghanistan I'm sure.

For the record, the World population is roughly 6 billion, not 3 billion. Then someone wrote that Hitler was at war with the whole World, but the countries that would accept Bin Laden as a welcome immigrant is easily countable on one hand.

An alternative to the us marines would of course be some undercover operation, but I think that Monaco would find it easier to get a mole into the white house than us to get just a few into the areas where obl might be.

Course I wasn't necessarily opposed to mass bombing the entire middle east and killing off over 50% of the local population while utilizing atomic/nuclear bombs, but then I wasn't making the calls on that.

You're making the exact same mistake our own President makes, and that's thinking of everything in terms of a conventional military solution.

You can't hit a single person with a nuke or for that matter conventional bombing if you don't know where he is.

If the us intelligence and army isn't capabable to do more than one thing at a time, then I'll suggest that you let some heads roll and hire people that can administer more than one thing at a time. It's common practise in the rest of the world.

About other than military solutions - well you haven't read all of the thread

You are right in that lousy top management can mess up a lot, but even perfect management can't improve geographical and logistical problems.
