Death of Brazil – Discussion thread.
We have met our first neighbor. Their history is one of betrayal and deception. This game, only the last man surviving wins, and the sooner we are the last man standing, the sooner all the others can recognize our dominance in this game.
Between ourselves and our neighbor, we have 10 spaces of open, unclaimed land. This will change soon, as both we and the heathens expand our future infrastructure. We do know that they possess two luxuries our folks at home would dearly love to have.
As of now, nobody possesses a better military than we do. Sure, some people say we are better at defense than offence, but I know many of the people here, and I know that they can be offensive…..
So, this thread is to plan the elimination of the heathens. How do we do it? When do we do it (for must we shall)? So on and so forth.
This will give our Domestic Minister a direction, or goal. We need to be reasonable in this also, unlike the last game where as our DM, I didn’t fight hard enough for a small military and it crippled us in the later parts of the game due to the enormous costs involved.
Please look at and discuss the following:
Guerrilla warfare – where we attack them with defensive units only at this time, flooding their lands with our cheep Enkudus while we build up an offensive force to capture / destroy their cities at a later date. This prevents them from building infrastructure (which we could take for our own, but prevents them from significant development), possible capture of workers / settlers / undefended villages, and is the soonest we can initiate hostilities (within the next 20 turns, minus travel time). One major down side is that if they have contacts with other civs, this may allow then to seek outside assistance against us as they will live a long time and have time to plant rumors and deceptions among the other civs. The good points: it doesn’t kill us with our unit support, is cheep, extremely effective, and can be done very very very early.
The Archer Rush – Slow moving cheep units that we can build quickly and almost immediately. No resources needed for this form of attack, and it can be mounted extremely early, probably before they have more than 4-5 turns to prepare defenses. This would amount to a surprise attack.
The Sword Rush – Slow moving expensive units, but devastating at this age. Our research will discover this technology in the next 10-15 turns or so, and most likely we will be the only ones capable of producing such a unit this early. Relies on having iron close by, but with all the hills near us, this may not be an issue. This would require quite a build up of our infrastructure, and the corresponding buildup of the enemy’s infrastructure will happen at the same time. This would rely on heavy planning on our part, but is doable.
The Combo Archer/Sword rush – Slow moving, but offers many of the advantages and disadvantages of both the above scenarios. Depends a lot on what percentage of each type of unit. I lean heavily in favor of this approach, with an 80% archer / 20% sword mix (total of 8-10 offensive units, preferably veterans), with an equal number of enkudus.
The Horseman approach – fast and mobile, this will be our strike force later on. However, we are 2 techs away from having the ability to even start to build these units, and I would prefer to attack sooner rather than later. Don’t get me wrong, if we went for these techs prior to IW I would prefer this route, but I don’t see it happening.
I would like to see us have 5 active cities, and perhaps 1-3 settlers in production / movement at the time we launch our invasion. Surprise will be key here. Our objective is not so much to capture their cities (but we will if we can) or even to eliminate them from this game (but again, we will if we can), but to hurt them to such an extent that they are effectively out of this game forever more. To this extent, if we determine we cannot capture cities, our offensive units come home, while our cheep enkudus stay to cause havoc destroying roads, preventing growth, blocking resources, and becoming a general pain in the buttocks. Thus, I propose an early assault, composed of 10 enkudus, 8 archers and 2+ swords. Our force would be in 2 stacks, marching side by side coming out of our lands, preferably with a roadway prebuilt under the guise of “a trade route” if they even notice its construction. We would have 3+ workers building roads connecting our lands with our forces, with 2 defenders, so that we can reinforce them as soon as units are constructed. Depending on their city growth pattern, we would hope to be outside their capitol within 15 turns of initiating hostilities.
We would dedicate 2 core cities to our rex, with 2 cities devoted to war only, and the 5th a balance between war and urban development (markets, wonders, etc). New cities would be constructed during the campaign and be devoted to whatever is most appropriate.
If we do this, we will have to begin our preparations soon. We want to keep 2-4 scouts out; we want to have 1 defender per city / settler, with 2 in some areas we feel need them (happiness or counterattack); 22 offensive units (including worker guards), plus workers. That is one hell of a lot of unit support. We want to settle towards the enemy, reducing our travel times. Our diplo guys will need to sweet talk them as we position the dagger, and get every ounce of blood out of them as possible prior to them realize they are on our dead list.
This is a discussion thread, so all you peaceniks, start trying to talk me out of convincing you to have early war now. All you warmongers, lets get ready to rumble and make these guys sorry they ever met us.

before we start a war we should get contact to the 3rd civ that is most likely on our continent, too

As the other possible civ, on this continent is very likely, just as close to CBR as we are, we might also be able to work with them (once we find them) and split the continent between us.
It's iffy at best. It will mean researching WC before the Wheel, but we should have a good growing economy, at that time, too.
Thing is, with Poly doing the EW/Settler thing and us getting ready to trade BW for Alphabet, this might present a problem. WQe don't want them to get any spearman, if possible. And definately not IW.
Lets make plans and see what comes.

Well, just remember, folks... We should receive a proposal tomorrow. AFAIK, this proposal includes tech trade AND screenshots trade AND peace for so many turns as we want. I can understand their reasons
But… If we reject this proposal, we need a good explanation, or they will be very suspicious. IMHO, no matters which story we tell, they will be suspicious. We should not suppose they are idiots…
So, if we refuse their proposal, they we’ll know what expect from us. And we’ll be prepared.
OTOH, if we agree and later we break the deal, how affected would be our reputation? I don’t like to break deals and agreements (unless I play against AI ).
So… Comments?

Actually we are very well suited for an archer rush. As already everyone has agreed the problem is do we want to sacrifice our early growth and wasate our GA.

I don’t see any use to chariots, unless as placeholder for horsemen, though the terrain between our capital and theirs is favorable to chariots.
Ok, let’s do some plans. First of all, we should delay as much as possible our response to CBR’s proposal. In fact, we need to plan our diplomacy carefully, in synchronicity with our Military. IMHO, only a true Diplomat (Master Zen, where are you?) should do this.
Btw, CBR didn't send me anything so far... Would they dare "slow" us a little, delaying their proposal to prepare for attack???
Nah…

No. EW's are our "spearman"...
Granted, I would REALLY, REALLY not like dealing with a Despotic GA (especially while REXing), but if that's what the team wishes for.... I would rather plan on getting our GA when we want it.
* E_T plans for the worst and hopes for the best....
Maybe we could use the Swords, with Archer (and possibly chariot, yes Krill, I know they are useless, somewhat, but they do have manuverability and reach) and keep the EW's as researve (to guard units while they heal, garrison captured cities, fall back, Go To Hell plan, etc) and let the swords take the defensive heat. With archers in the stack, we get the bombardment help, in defence and any chariots can work on blunting any units, before they get within attack range of our main stacks.
