While building muscle increases ones wiehgt initially, the more muscle you have , the higher your metabolism is, and therefore you will burn more calories as you go about your day, period. So in the end moderate weight-lifting is excellent for someone looking to lose weight and maintain it off long-term.
I agree with the notion that you should eat more for breakfast- some complex grains are good-oatmeal is a fine suggestion, a bowl of raisin bran or some other whole grain is great too.
As for getting a bit less energetic in the mid-afternoon, this is very common, in fact I think this happens to almost everyone. Maybe you could move your lunch hour a bit back, and between your breakfast and lunch eat a snack to tie you over.
One thing, Maybe spiffor is using different terms, but processed foods are chuck full of simple, not complex, sugars like fructose. Complex carbohydrates are things like cellulose and starch, long chains that take time to digest, vs. just taking in straight monosacherides like glucose.

But what do I do if I'm already a bit tired in the morning? Go to the doc and have them look at my blood pressure?

Weird ones. Ever lit up an empty teabag? Try it, you can even do it on your mom's valued carpet.

As suggested, throw in some oatmeal for breakfast. And some kind of protein source. You HAVE to have protein for breakfast because your body needs it after it has depeleted all of it's protein stores overnight. Even a scoop of peanut butter is better than nothing but you HAVE to have a protein source in the morning.
If you know how to make smoothies, you can even throw oatmeal into them. Yes, that's right, oatmeal. If that taste is too chunky for you, you can cook the oatmeal first and it will make it smooth, you won't even know that it was oatmeal in the smoothie if you blend it well.
Strawberries, blueberries, cinammon, and honey go well with oatmeal to spice it up. You can throw them all in at once for a good taste and strawberries have a slower burning fructose in them than other fruits.
One of my favorite meals is green apples and peanut butter. IT FREAKING OWNS and talk about mad energy. The cool thing about this combo is that you get both protein and carbs and you can eat alot of peanut butter, because the apples have so much fibre in them, so you don't risk getting any "blockage" inside.
You have to pick a tart apple because things like red delicious don't taste good with the peanut butter.
For lunch, try a dark green leafy salad (with spinach like leaves -- none of that worthless iceberg lettuce crap) and DROWN it in olive oil and a hint of vinegar. You can get crazy energy from olive oil, it is laced with raw power. Add in some chicken or some other kind of meat to the salad.
You'll need a complex carb source in addition to salad. Brown rice or a multi-grain bread is a good choice.
Also, why not move your apple to your slump time?
The best fruit combo for energy is:
Orange, apple, and banana
Eat those all at once and you will be getting mad headshots on fools

Pissing a lot isn't that bad. I used to be better at drinking lots of water some months ago, I should get back to that. The water from this tab just has a weird taste to it, and I'm not going to buy bottled (<-- student).
Cool stuff Ted, it's just the fruit part that makes me worry. Fresh fruits are quite expensive, so that's where they grab you first. Everyone should be able to afford a healthy style of living, yet it's fruit and veggies where they kick your butt.
What's wrong with iceberg etc. lettuce? I usually get that, might as well go for leaf salad though!
Now I'm going to ge a glass of water plus the last kiwi in my shelf, afterwards brushing teeth and then fof to library! On return I shall pop into the supermarket to get new fruit! Should be a new pack of milk as well.

Then add nutmeg, crystallized ginger, prunes, dates, cinnamon, sultanas, raisins, almonds, walnuts- make yourself a hot muesli, in fact.
An oatmeal breakfast is a great way of getting through that mid-morning hiatus, when you might be tempted by the offer of something sticky and sweet or salted.
