HOTW, to me, epitomizes what a diplogame should embody.
Diplogames should center around Politics. While most games turn into lessons in game mechanics, with super growth strategy forumlas, and trade bug manipulation equations, the Diplogame relies on human interaction, through diplomacy, politics, even out and out propaganda.
However, War is an extension of Politics. Its also a natrual occurance between peoples. War exists in the real world, it is impractical to not expect it to happen in a diplogame. To take this one step further, War has occured due to simple naked aggression. If you dont want war in your diplogame, use diplomacy to keep it out. Build a coalition to stop the people who use naked aggression. America did that in WW2, why cant we do it in a diplogame?
Im not a war monger, but I do think its a vital aspect of human interaction, and has been for eons. Lets not ignore it.

Ok folks, I'm adding some of my work to CapTVK's Diplo FAQ we seem to be the two people with an interest in Diplogame history. I've started working on game summeries. Right now i have the title, the dates played, the civs involved and who was in control of those civs. For some i've included links. When I am once again bored and stupid enough to waste an entire day looking through the forums i'll add details and descriptions for each game. Whether it was finished or not, what map it was played on, the settings, a brief outline of what happened in each game. There are a few i've left out I'm sure. I didn't put HOTW2 in there yet but of course I will, and I can't find the first thread for the Monday Night Diplomatic Game.
The dates are estimations based on the first post in the thread and the last post. Some games however take a few weeks to set up so i date those from the time the game actually started, the first story post. Some were hard to tell when they ended as people tried to hang on to a fizzling game, I did my best be sure to correct me if you can.
I only included the names of people who seemed to me to be permanent or semi-permanent players. Subs weren't included. I figure having a listing like this helps us identify who played in what games and what their diplo history was. I had mistakenly thought Rasputin was new at diplogames but he has been around for a while. Any ways here is the partial work in progress list. Please correct me if you can.

Actually Ozzy, your list doesnt include the 1st diplo game to be played virtually to the finish....." Open Letter to all Nations" thread by Frankdogg. This was a 2x1x game played during May ,June, and July 1999 and included modern naval and ground combat with a massive nuclear exchange at the end. The cool thing about this game was that it was never intended to be a diplo game, but it had the most intense, nail biting, edge of your seat global stratigizing , warmongering and negotiating of any of the 3 "diplo" games(or any other 7 player game) that Ive been involved in.

Perhaps one of you Diplo game gurus could explain something to me….
Why does the game always end when there is a spaceship?
It doesn’t make sense to me…. If someone was to send colonists to a far off distance planet it really does not effect the diplo part of the game… there is still millions of people on earth, the 40,000 or so people you send off are rather isolated, and have no real bearing on game play, besides the fact someone did it. I don’t understand how this ends the game and brings the end to all life on earth.
Is it just because there is no other place to end it? Sorry that just seems silly to me….
I mean they had to end it in SP games somehow besides world domination, but if Diplo is suppose to be unique and not held to in game rules…. Anyhow maybe someone can explain it to me….
