Hi Markos, here's what it's now said on my front pagequote:
Read them!
Urban Ranger - You have 0 new message(s) since last visit (1 unread, 8 total messages) |
The problem is I don't have 8 messages. I have 6. So it seems that either the total count on the frontpage is 2 higher than actual, or I am missing two messages somewhere.

Any easy ways to settle this? |
Anyone? Markos?

Aha!
I thought it was taken from the Birthday FAQ. Never mind, sorry.

Urban Ranger, I use the IE 5.5, and the problem is that often only the first post(s) is/are shown, but not the whole page. It loads then correctly after pressing reload. Sometimes also the "Page cannot be displayed" error or so (appears in German on my machine) is displayed when I try to visit a page, but reload helps here also... |
Well 56K modems are relative slow and your ISP probably has high traffic. This is a classic behavior on very slow connections which has to do either with a low speed modem or high network traffic somewhere between you and the page you are trying to load (Your ISP or possibly Apolyton, etc.).

My modem is also slow and I saw something like that:
50 bytes per seconds in my Netscape 4.5.
Bytes not kilobytes that I got from the page per second. I think a faster modem wouldn't help if the Apolyton site don't reply.
But I have still a second problem (trouble to post this):

as i said, you can browse the forums and post on several threads with just one login in the front page without cookies. just turn them off from the control panel page

OK Markos I tried it as you said but it doesn't work fine for me:
[QUOTE] Apolyton CS Forums > User Control Panel For Martin Gühmann > Edit Options
Automatically login when you return to the site? (uses cookies)

Is turned on NO

Clicking yes will use cookies to keep your id for this session. Clicking no will send it through the links. (Selecting no may cause problems when sharing links with people behind the same proxy as you)

Is also turned on NO.
Now I followed a link from an email notification:

Hello Martin Gühmann,
Dr.Oogkloot has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - the APOLYTON upgrade: known issues - in the Apolyton/Community forum of Apolyton CS Forums.
This thread is located at:

There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the board again.

I just copied this link to my browser:
http://apolyton.net/forums/showthre...mp;goto=newpost
Therefore I wasn't on the the front page just for logging in. I think the sense of email notifications is avoiding the front page and browsing direct and fast to this threat without any searching.
Therefore it would be great to find this not only there:
but also on every other site of the forum.
Now I wasn't logged in and I tried to reply to this threat, I got this:
quote: vBulletin Message
You are not logged in or you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
1.You are not logged in. Fill in the form at the bottom of this page and try again.
2.You do not have permission to access the page that you were trying to. Are you trying to edit
someone else's post or trying to access administrative features? Check that you are allowed to perform this action in the Forum Rules.
3.If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

I came to the post reply page successfully. And I tried to post the speed stuff from the beginning of this post. I wrote this post online. I wasn't disconected from the internet (no change of my IP). But obviously the site lost my IP, I got the log in page again. I logged in again successfully but I instaed of posting I got the next message:
quote: vBulletin Message
No thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster
|
Usually I get this message if I disconect my modem from the WWW.
Now I went back to the post reply page and write this post. I don't know how much time I needed to write this post, I think more than an hour. And I don't want to pay for the time, when I am writing a long post. If you reconnect you get a different IP, therefore the board lose your IP, but last time it lost my IP without any reason. It would be no problem if the relog in after submitting your reply would work and leads me to my new post in the tread.
The next thing what I will do is to copy this to an external file. Than connect to the WWW go back to this therd, press post reply, log in, paste it to the post reply page, press submit reply and hope that my reply will be accepted.
-Martin
Edit: It I used ME5 to post this I tried it with Netcape 4.5 before without any success.

I thinkn someone has posted this, and MtG told me he reported this, but nothing has been done for the past few days so here goes:
When I post long posts with lots of quotations from previous posts I recieve a message stating that I'm using too many imgaes which forces me to split the post into smaller ones or use simple quotation signs which are less visible.
I participate in many longs and tiresome discussion threads wabout politics, morals, religion, science and what not. This prevents me from having full productive long posts (as I usually answer in a lengthy fashion, referrring to each point made and often answer a few posts at once).
As there is a limit for the number of quotations, this doesn't hurt people who don't respond or write relatively short posts. because of this, this doesn't hurt spammers. It does however hurt people who want to participate in meaningfull discussion.
You have made it clear that your policy is to support serious discussion, however this buggy image limitation hinders the effectivity of serious posts while letting the spammers off. Is this really what you want to do?
